Has the iPhone 4 'big issue' put you off buying?
I was put off after seeing the problem for myself after my brother got his.
I'm now a proud owner of a HTC Desire that works perfectly. So were you all set to become an iPhone 4 owner but now gone else where as a direct result of the reception issue? Or you just gonna wait to see what solution Apple come up with? |

id like to get the chance to buy one.
Apple website still saying 3 weeks and im on 2 waiting lists in istores and again, nothing. So to answer your question - no I havent been put off. I just sold my HTC Desire - I know its only a phone but it was so dull. Also had no memory other than the 4gb which isnt good enough. |

It wasn't just the design fault that put me off, but Apple's arrogant attitude that made me go for the desire (especially after discovering the desire also features pinch zoom)

Yup. Put off but I haven't gone anywhere else as yet. I'm still hoping they'll fix it. However, as right now they seem to be denying it, I'm not too hopeful...

It's put me off recommending it to others for the time being. Had I suffered the problems I would have given it back. But thankfully I'm one of the lucky ones and am more then happy with it.

It's not so much the reported reception issues that have put me off; I could probably get by with that. After owning an iPhone 3G for over 18 months, I'm a bit bored with the OS, and there are no major differences in iOS4. When accessing the home screen, you're still greeted by the same boring rows of icons. Also, I find the cost of the device hard to justify.
Instead, my next phone is going to be the HTC Desire. I'm switching to T-Mobile too, as O2's network has been terrible in my experience. Only problem is that all T-Mobile stores seem to be out of stock at the moment, so I'm on another waiting list! Hopefully it will be worth the wait. |

Now if only o2 could sort out their 3G signal in my area that would make me much happier. The free bumpers will come at some point for those that really want them (I don't, but I'll take one if it's free!). Apple can't continue to turn a blind eye to it forever and continue to come across as arrogant, like they currently do. A slightly more humble approach from Apple would have helped this pr nightmare go away by now. I'm sure this over long silence from Apple means they are beavering away hard on coming up with something. We should all know how secretive they are with everything they do, be it a new product or a potential fix. The time will come soon when we finally get to hear what Apple truly have to day on the matter other than rumoured emails and leaked helpline scripts. |

"Just don't hold it that way."
It was that sentence that helped me decide not to buy an iPhone. I've ordered a HTC Desire instead, |

Here, here! I'm also not one of the ham fisted gorilla brigade that can't seem to hold the iPhone 4 without a vice like grip. I can recreate the problem if I really have to, but it never causes me a problem in normal use.

We should all know how secretive they are with everything they do, be it a new product or a potential fix. It would be commercial suicide for apple to keep glossing over the issue. Enough people are spitting their dummies out and making a fuss over it to potentially cause Apple serious harm in the future (half of whom probably have never laid eyes on an iPhone 4 in the flesh). Be the fix free bumpers, a coating applied to the metal band, a swap or something else. The time will come soon when we finally get to hear what Apple truly have to day on the matter other than rumoured emails and leaked helpline scripts. I'll probably take anything apple offer as its free. A bumper may well just go in my drawer as I don't like the look of them... they seem to go better with the as yet elusive white model. I wont be too bothered if Apple do nothing though. The phone is a gorgeous piece of kit and if you haven't already done so, try looking at a 3GS's display after a few days of using retina. It looks so pants its untrue. A fault that only exists when I hold my phone in a way I never would as it prevents one handed operation of the phone isn't going to ruin my enjoyment of an otherwise excellent product |

If you took the back cover off the phone, you'd have seen a 4GB microSD card. Replace with whatever size was good enough.

I have used a couple of friends iPhone 4 & haven't noticed any signal issues with the way that I hold it, so am not put off at all. I am highly tempted to order 1 from Orange tomorrow & if they let me have the additional line then I could well have it by Thursday

I'd have one in a heartbeat. . .I regret upgrading from 3G to 3GS in January but I just couldn't wait.
I'm left handed but have used my mates and suffered no problems. The 3GS drops out when connected to the internet occasionally. My next upgrade should be just around the time of iPhone 5 which will probably suffer from a problem that I'm told is massively crippling when actually I don't suffer any problems. |

Nothing to do with the phones performance, but, I'm not buying one because the data restrictions are beginning to make it a farce owning a smart phone that you have to restrict your usage of. It's like the early days of the internet when you had restrictions. Before anyone says that the restrictions are ample...Rubbish. They maybe for some but that's the point. Those that use the 'smart phone' for what it was designed and sold for often go way over what is on offer now
As O2 are cutting the data from unlimited to 500mb I'm leaving them and the iPhone behind. |

Not that. What did put me off was the lack of innovation, price and this whole thing of waiting in lines at the crack of dawn at launch day, only to arrive and find that 20 other people have already been there 2 hours longer than you.
AMOLED and Retina are not too far apart and the Android Market is improving every day. I still slightly prefer the iPhone, but not by much at all which does not justify the inflated price which is why I got the Nexus One. The HTC Desire is nice but that has similar stock problems and it has HTC Sense meaning I probably won't get the latest version of Android as soon as the Nexus One if ever. Not only that, I am thinking of getting a Wi-Fi iPad. Using the Nexus One with 2.2 I could tether it to my iPad so I save money by not having the get the iPad 3G with yet another monthly outgoing. |

Im not put off by the current faults, I suspect they will be resolved very soon. What is putting me off tho is that I have a 32gb 3GS, it does everything I could ask from a smartphone, I cant see what the 4 offers that justifies the £600 price tag. The screen may be much better but is it really 600 quid better? That said, if I find myself with that much disposable cash I may end up buying one anyway. just because.* * I cant explain why, its a 'I want' situation, not at all an 'I need'. typical of so many techie purchases! |
