Fixing/Replacing 9200 Remote Control ?
gdh82
14-07-2010
One of the kids has broken off the LED bit inside the hummy remote!

How difficult is it to get hold of a replacement LED part and fix it myself? Or what's the best way to get a replacement RC ?

Any tips/pointers appreciated.

Thanks
Gaz

PS In the meantime is there's a way of playing recordings/accessing the guide without the remote?

I guess repairing it is possible but I would suggest it is probably easier to buy a replacement. Humax will supply then for about £30 or you can get clones such as http://www.amazon.co.uk/humax-Remote...9100523&sr=8-1 for half the price.

Thanks Martin and Munchkinn - appreciate the links.

Interested in the price of those clones - do they have all the functions of the original remote do you know ?

Or get a universal remote for about a tenner which has the Humax codeset programmed in. And if it has also a learning feature you can tweak it to work precisely as you like. And use it operate the TV and DVD player as well etc

Thanks Gomezz - like the sound of that too. Is there a particular one you could recommend please ?

I use a One-For-All URC 7556 (black version - silver is 7555). Controls five devices but that in is a bit more than a tenner I think. Currys stores stock them.

I did get a more functional (activity based) Harmony 555 remote but can not get on with it so went back to using the OFA. I have since learned you can set the 555 to *not* try and power on or off everything in sight every time you change activity so may give it another go as the OFA does not support my Humax Foxsat as it predates it by a few years and I have maxed out the learning code space to tweak control of my Topfields.

I just recently got a One For All Smart Control which can control 6 devices. Ive been very pleased with it since my urc8308 died and its very easy to set up too.
Have a look, page 412 in Argos catalogue. Its £29.99 in Argos, but Maplins sell it £5 cheaper.

Do not make your buying decision until you have had a look at the Logitech Harmony, similar price range to what has been mentioned thus far:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-lis...&condition=new

My better half has one and uses it with her 9150 (along with the TV, surround amp, etc); it's configured with an extremely user friendly PC interface over usb - just download the Humax profile, tweak to taste, and go.

I wish I owned one myself, although at some of the prices given on the above link, I won't have to save up for too long.

Thanks Phil. If it wasn't being used by the kids, I'd be interested in that impressive remote, but as they will be getting their mits on it, I'm going for the cheaper replacement model from http://www.remote-controls-shop.co.uk/. Your suggestion will be one for when their grown up!

Or, for 50p .... Should do the job.

We don't know exactly what is broken. The IR transmitter of the Humax remote is right inside protected by a plastic cover, so it's not clear how it got damaged.

Cheers Vic20. 50p is an even better deal! I am interested to have a go at that if only to keep the original going. The replacement came this morning though and so far so good. Seems to have all the buttons that mirror the original. Will test properly later. Thanks again to everyone for the help obtaining this.

You're right Max, I didn't fully explain. The outer 'u'-shaped bit of plastic has been removed for some time, so the 'bead' shaped LED has been on show too. Obviously proved too tempting for prying fingers, sadly!
