Possibly dumb 9200T remote question
cheekyangus
14-07-2010
I was trying to help someone with their Humax 9200T recently and will be doing so again on Friday.

I read the manual while there and the diagram suggests the lower third of the remote slides down to reveal more buttons. I for the life of me couldn't get it to do so and it give no visual indication I was close to achieving it.

Is there a knack to doing it? Or did some ship with remotes that don't have these hidden buttons?

Thanks in advance.

There is a very slight click stop that hold the sliding cover closed, but basically it just slides down.

Mine won't stay closed so ended up taking it off. I think you have to push it in slightly as Big-les says there is a click to hold it closed but it certainly isn't hard to open. Mine must have worn out off as it falls off most of the time now!!!

Really!!! I swear I did that. Do you push in the top middle?

It slides off easily. Of course it might not be a genuine Humax remote; some of the clones do not have a cover. Post a picture if you still can't open it on Friday.

There's no reason for it not to be genuine, especially given the owner.

It didn't appear to want to slide at all with me & it seemed a fairly well made remote....not a cheap knock-off (so to speak).

The top sliding flap lines up exactly with that which covers the batteries on the underside.

No you don't have to push in the top middle, there is no catch there. The slight restriction that holds the cover open or closed is actually at the bottom middle but no pushing in is required anywhere. Try holding the sides of the sliding cover with the your finger and thumb of one hand while holding the main body of the remote with the other, then slide the cover down. Maybe you should get more porridge down you Angus

That's what I thought.

I even had my spinach and I swear I tried that too! Oh well lets see what happens on Friday....the person I'm visiting has a recording problem with their 9200T but they live in a fringe area between transmitters and the signal is not the best.

Apparently they are setting recordings and they just aren't happening! But I'll need a play about wih the box first and I ask on this forum once I know more.

The remote problem has little to do with this of course.....it just bugged me last time I was there!

Similar to my Humax then. With me a manual tune is necessary with me even though I usually get no channels in the 800 range with an auto-tune. A similar manual tune description to the one I need to do is here:

You'll be pleased to hear that the bottom of the remote finially opened this time....though it was stubborn at first.

Thanks for everyone's help.

Clasping the sides finally worked with a bit of brute force! Now that it's loose it opens much easier on subsequent tries.

On a play about with the box recording was working when we series linked Murder She Wrote as an experiment. Given the sheer shakiness of even the best received channels despite several aerial expert consultations/installations I don't think the box is necessarily to blame.

Surely if the reception is poor the box just won't try on some occasions if it deems the signal too bad?

Given the 1st part of switchover is due on the 4th August I don't think any improvement can be expected until then.

There is also a 9200T box update due t be transmitted between 4th - 8th of August so the box will finally get .23 delivered to it. In case you are wondering the box is set to auto update at the moment (and is put into standby every night) but I guess the signal is so bad it's never successfully downloaded it before. It's still stuck on .21 that it was bought with.
