I phoned up the vision sale department last night and was told they will not sell me vision because there computer says I can't recieve freeview channels bbc1, bbc2, ITV, C4 and C5 at my post code. I can recieve these channels and told them so, to no avail. When I checked my reception forecast on Digital UK , it even said that I could get 23 channels with good reception and 36 with variable, the only channels not available were the 3 HD ones.I have two freeview boxes and nearly every channel has 100% reception on both. I even told the sales rep, that I'd take responsability if it didn't work and to just sell me the thing, he said that was more than his job was worth and he couldn't do it. I'm not sure what to do now, I'm thinking of phoning again and speaking to someone different or asking for the sales manager. Has anyone else encountered this problem or can anyone give me any advice. I really want to get vision and sky sports as I can't get a satellilte signal at my home due to trees being in the way. Thanks.

I've heard this story a few times. Ring back and speak to someone else. I've heard of people getting BTVision even when they can't receive freeview and are happy to get it for the VOD, speak to the right person and you'll be fine

Hi Steve-39

I would like to look into this for you to see why we have informed you that we are not able to provide you with the BT vision service. There are certain conditions that have to be met for us to provide the service and if our systems are saying that you are not in a freeview area this can cause problems with us placing an order, but as you have informed us that you are able to receive freeview further investigation may be required. If you check out my profile page you will fine my contact details and if you send me your details I can look into this for you.

Regards David

I second that, I work in sales for Vision

One of the questions the adviser should first ask you is are you happy with the channels that you currently recieve, this is irrelevent to what the checks show the adviser placing the order

As long as you say yes you are happy then you should be fine to proceed with a Vision order

The only thing that would actually prevent an order from been placed, the systems will prevent an order been placed if your line speed is not supported

i cant understand why bt would shoot themselves in the foot like this, they need more subscribers and they refuse people because they may not recieve all the freeview channels, what is all that about, surely it is up to the people buying it to decide if they are happy they may not recieve a few channels, i can totally understand refusing it down to the speed issue, as you need the sppeed to make it work(mind you there cant be that many places that still run under the minimum limit, my line speed jumped from 2.6 to 7.5 overnight a few weeks back) but you dont need the freeview channels to make it work, surely they give them the box and they make more money, thru subscriptions, or pay as you go

it's obviously a training issue, as you can tell from Steven and BT Support's replies. I guess if you're unlucky enough to be put through to someone new on the job.....I know it's not an excuse, but I work for a company with a with a massive reputation for customer service and we still get complaints about responses we give out from time to time...ship happens

Thanks for the replies, I’m going to try phoning again and will post what happens . I will be armed with a few more facts this time and don’t plan taking “no” for an answer.

To clarify a few other points;

My BB speed is 6 megs, BT agreed on this.

I have spent over £100 on a top roof-top aerial, new cabling and a masthead boaster, so my reception is probably the best available at my postcode. My transmitter is Sandy Heath.

I’ve reviewed all the freeview channels reception over the last two days, everything is pretty much perfect, except for ITV1 and Channel 5, these tend to click from time to time and would be irritating to watch. I fail to see what this has to do with me not being accepted to Vision, as I will watch those on analogue.

Several times during my conversation with the BT rep, I told him that I thought the situation was “absolutely ridiculous”, I’m sure he said that legally he could only sell me Vision if I could receive a certain number of channels. When I repeatedly told him I could receive them he keep saying “I’m not calling you a liar but our computer says no one in your area can”, I took this as he was calling me a liar! I must admit, it felt like one of those situations where you expect Jeremy Beadle to pop up and tell you the whole thing is a wind up!!!!!!

Maybe you actually got through to the Sky call centre...they'd be pretty determined not to give you BTVision.....seriously though, you can't be unlucky enough to get put through to the same person.....could you?

Phoned up again, this time no problem. The new sales rep didn't know why I had a problem the first time, either.

So if anyone else has this problem, just ask to speak to someone else.

What about cable services? With BT Vision you can only get Sky Sports 1 and 2, whilst on Virgin you can get 3 and 4, as well as Sports News (as it will be dropped from Freeview soon) with Sports 1, 2 and News in HD come August.

Granted, you probably want Sky Sports for the Premier League coverage on Sports 1, but just a thought.

I'm in a pretty crap situation, can't get a satellite signal anywhere on my property, because of trees (oaks, with a protection order), we have no cable either, so BT is a god send! I might be trapped, but I want sky sports badly and there is no other option, so I might as well go for a 24 month contract.

It seems pretty cheap to me anyway, at £11.99/month for ss1, ss2 and espn. My phone was with BT anyway, BB is £3 more than it was with Orange.

Good for you. Looks like the usual anti BT brigade lost out this time

Enjoy

No cable is one thing, but no satellite signal either? That's definitely one rural location you live in!

Regardless of the (seemingly low) cost now, you are tied in for TWO YEARS! I hope the service is what you want and expect, otherwise you'll have a long wait to change supplier again!

Aye, and it equals a very long time to be tied to a new service, that he may find doesn't meet his needs.

What may look a good deal now (and thats questionable), may not in a 12 months time, but he won't be able to do anything about it due to the contract duration he's entered into.

24 month contracts... rediculous!

Not that your bothered though, as long as you think it got one up on the 'Anti BT brigade'.

He could have a shorter tie in if he chose to pay more. That's the thing you see - with Sky Sports 1 & 2 BT has given him a choice - whereas before he didnt have one.

But don't worry - Murdoch will still be filling his boots regardless

That's the real plus of BT getting Sky Sports and it should be applauded.
What should be of concern to BT though is that he only seems to have taken Sports with BT because there was no other option.

The TopUp TV options....

Sky Sports 1 = £22.99/month
Sky Sports 2 = £22.99/month
Sky Sports 1 & 2 = £31.99/month
SS1, 2 + ESPN = £39.99/month

Free 250GB Freeview+ Box
12 months sub to TV Favourites & ESPN = £19.99/month
+ Sky Sports Option

or

Free Cam ESPN TV Adapter
6 months sub to EPSN = £9.99/month
+ Sky Sports Option

or

250GB Freeview+ Box = £49.99 one off
SS1, 2 + ESPN = £39.99/month no min term.

So to get the box free, you have to sub to TV favourites and/or ESPN for a minimum term. The Sky Sports pack option have no min, term.

So, here are some options that don't require a phone line & Broadband (BT) or minimum TV viewing sub package (Sky).
