I'm thinking of buying this tv soon but is the extra money for a Sony really worth it? One important thing, I need to have 1 aerial pointing 1 way for digital and 1 the other way for analogue.This is because we have a samller transmitter that gives good analogue but its not digital.So,I neeed to be able to connect both aerials so i can receive both analogue and digital,record 1 while watch the other etc. How will i do this,does the set have 2 aerial sockets? One other thing please, does it auto switch between 4:3 and 16:9? so, if i leave it in 4:3 it will auto switch to 16:9 when a widescreen signal is detected and then go back to 4:3 when not . I prefer to watch in these 2 aspects rather than the stretched/adjusted ones.

Ive never seen or heard of a TV with 2 ariel sockets, there is no need for 2. why are you worrying about it auto switching its normaly just a button on your remote to control picture ratio.

Digital transmitters transmit both digital and analogue signals so set up VCR as normal and it will record analogue signals.

Like us, you have reception from 2 transmitters.

1) Primary Main transmitter - provides Freeview and grainy analogue.

2) Local low power analogue transmitter - near perfect analogue, but no Freeview.

You can "combine" signals from 2 different sources using a "Combiner" device. But this is not common place, and you have to be very carefull as the frequency's used at one transmitter may interfere with ones from the other transmitter. You will also drop the gain (signal strength) a bit by doing this. If possible, I would recommend a brand new, ultra high gain aerial (possible with booster) and use it only the Main transmitter that provides Freeview and less than perfect analogue. A good aerial system will be able to improve the grainy analogue, although possibly still not get it perfect.

As for Widescreen autoswitching, provided you have a direct Scart link from the Freeview box to the TV, the tv should autoswitch automatically.

You will still have the task of deciding on a "defualt" format - the one used when you look at analogue signals, or there is no autoswitch. On my Sony I have the Menu in Smart mode. So I view analogue in "stretch mode", but using the digibox on a widescreen channel (not all digital channels are widescreen), it auto switches to 16:9 Wide. Purests will say to use the true 4:3 mode for analouge or non-widescreen channels, which is fine, but on a my 24" Sony, the picture is too small. But it will still autoswitch from 4:3 to Wide 16:9 and back again.

My friend has just bought a Sony IDTV set.

Around the back there are 3 aerial sockets. One for aerial in (digital), one that sends that signal out to a video etc, and then another for the signal to come back in for the analogue tuner.

I presume you could just plug your second aerial in where the 'loop' is supposed to enter the set, and you could have the best of both transmitters.

I see that there are now new models from Sony and Panasonic
so my choice is between the:
Sony KD28DL11 and Pan TX28DTX1
I can't decide which to buy,I'm even more undecided than before,help! Has anyone got one of these new models?
I've never had a Sony /Pan ,I know they are good sets but which is the best IDTV?
Hope you can help me make up my mind soon...
