Corrie: Bethany
I'm rather worried about this little girl after realising that all she ever does is draw and colour in.
Poor her, she loses Todd and soon her last colouring book will be full and she will have nothing to do apart from come into a room at exactly the wrong moment or interrupt people. |

I guess she'll have to find some nice old woman to kidnap her or a faulty plug socket to blast her back onto into the limelight.

Yeah, she's had a fair amount happen to her at such a young age (more than most of us have in a lifetime) - I guess colouring is her only escape from it all!

I've heard a few words here and there.
I think her biggest line was when Todd said, "Where do you put the toast? and Beth went, "On the plate!" |

You mean she has said 3 whole words before i bet she got told off for that - she broke the silence is golden rule have you also noticed how even though she can't speak she is capable of looking after herself for the day - well the platts seemed to have conveniently left her at home when they went to burry Billy - so they haven't taught her to speak but they have managed to teach her to take care of herself at the tender age of 4 - they certainly have their priorities straight! |

There was a thread about this a few weeks ago. You can still see it here.
As I said at the time, my favourite moment was when she piped up out of the blue, "Camera Four" (or some other number). It made a pleasant change from kids constantly being distracted by the boom mic! |

I wondered what had happened to her on the day of the funeral. She has been AWOL a lot lately but I always assumed that Emily was looking after her as she has done so many times in the past.
When Sarah went into labour at the cafe, someone (either Roy or Vera?) rang Gail and said 'There's no answer'. Gail appeared later and said 'I was out shopping'. Fair enough. But where was Bethany? David was off school as it was half-term so could have been looking after her but if he was he had obviously taken her out of the house because he didn't answer the phone. And surely Gail would have taken her shopping with her rather than leave her at home? But everyone was at the funeral - all the Platts, Emily, Roy and Hayley and all the other usual babysitting subjects so where was Bethany? |

I think that somewhere in soap land there is a league of secret babysitters, who look after all of soap's children. You see single parents on soaps in the pub along with any family or friends, but the children are nowhere to be seen. Perhaps since Bethany has survived: being kidnapped at a day old and 3 years later, nearly drowning and being electrocuted, that the Platts don't worry about leaving her alone as she has survived all this. For now, she will just colour in and play in her room, then she'll constantly be at a friend's house, before reaching age 10-early teens where she lives in her bedroom, before returning as a teenager to rebel, get drunk, possibly get pregnant, and be in a constant mood. Ah, the joys of a soap childhood!

At least in Friends when Rachel left Emma alone in the apartment she took the baby monitor with her caring parent that she was.
