What can I say about tonight's double dose of Corrie? I think that if I admit to the fact that my both my throat and head are aching with grief says it all about how incredibly poignant and lachrymosely heart-rending it was played out by that truly outstanding cast. Kudos to them all. I was doing fine until Eileen started shedding tears. It's always the case with me, though; anytime Eileen loses it, I'm all over the place! Speaks volumes of just how tremendously convincing and thoroughly talented Sue Cleaver is as an actress. Where have you been all out soap lives, dear sweet woman?? God bless you. And little Billy too.......

Tonights second episode was absolutelty brilliant and hats off to all the cast but especially Tina O'Brien and Bruno Langley. I think the moment that got everyone and made the hair stand up on your neck was when Todd said:

"Billy, its daddy"

So simple but such powerful words.

The whole story line has been brilliant right the way through from Todd being confused back at the beginning of the year to now when they said goodbye to Billy Grimshaw. In a way it was the perfect way to finish off the storyline.

It will be a shame though when Bruno leaves the show in a few months and i wonder what would he have been like as a father if Billy had not died.

Who knows??

Overall a very sad but brilliant episode. Someone deserves to win awards for it at next years Soap Awards.

Just to add my voice - it was superb, played beautifully by everyone and the tears were running down my face as well. It never got sentimental and over the top, just brilliant. And Sue Cleaver is now officially a soap goddess.

Sue Cleaver IS a soap goddess, you are right. However characters like Karen McDonald and Kat Slater are louder and brasher and always seem to scoop the awards but as long as we know who the real best actress is, that's what really matters!

I thought all the cast were tremendous in tonights double Corrie. Yes even I shed a tear and yes I do know its only a soap. Congratulations all round. Louise Berridge and all over at EE should watch this and learn. And typical of Corrie there were even some lighter moments mixed in between

Yes I too shed a tear or two. I thought both episodes were so well acted as has been the case for the whole story line. David is trying to be there for his sister in the only way he knows how to shout out and try to defend her. Gail and Eileen as parents can only begin to imagine what Sarah and Todd must be going through and I felt so sorry for Todd the simplicity of the words "hello Billy its Daddy" , they were so heart rending. The death of a baby is always a difficult one to portray and it was done with dignity and sensitivity last night. I'm almost crying again just thinking about it.

Everyone at my work was talking about this today and they all agreed it was that one moment when Todd said "Billy...its daddy" that started them off. Some of the lads claimed just to have a lump in the throat (yeah right!) but most admitted they blubbed. I bet there was hardly a dry eye left in the country at five to nine last night!

Personally I found Sarah's wailing much more disturbing though.. Probably because up until that moment the scene had been so peaceful. It was well acted by Tina O'Brien as well..

I agree. That's the part that got to me. Especially when David felt his sisters pain and began to cry too. A really sad and convincing scene.

I sobbed my heart out - an excellent portrayal of such a delicate subject.

Am I the only one, however, who felt that Leanne Battersby's return was crowbarred into the episode ? It felt stilted and also, I thought it went against character for Patrick to be manhandling everything in sight - up until now he has always been played as a man with a heart of gold - the way he spoke to Todd a couple of weeks back about being in the Rovers later if he wanted a drink I always thought was lovely.

Whilst these scenes didn't spoil such a fantastic show, I felt that Billy's funeral deserved a better accompanyment

I think most people agree with you looby. It was discussed at length on the "Todd" thread as well as over on the BBC boards. Jumping from the sadness of the funeral to the overly comical and badly written (did Leanne really not realise it was her dad until she heard his voice in the alley?) club scene jarred just a little too much. Leanne's return should probably have been saved until tonight.

I was in tears during those episodes too, and reading through this thread has started me off again

Excellently done, so moving and understated. As others have said, it was the "Hello Billy, it's daddy" and Sarah's wailing that really got me. Fantastic writing, just when you think Corrie can't get any better - it does. Confess I even watched the repeat on itv2 and it had me in tears a second time.

(Opposite case with EE - just when you think it can't get any worse, the writers lower the standards even further.)

I actually disagree with the point about Leanne being crowbarred in. When the scenes changed to her storyline I did inwardly groan, but within a few seconds I was laughing at them (despite not being a Les fan) - Corrie is very good at those complete changes of pace. Agree though that it didn't fit very well with Patrick's previous characterisation but I will forgive them one slip.

Sue Cleaver better had win awards! The catfight she had with gail on the mammoth triple bill was simply superb. The best lines ive ever heard in a soap (except billy, its daddy) were shouted by Sue (He'l need an aids test after sleeping with your slagg of a daughter!!) Sheer class!
