The Desire HD doesn't appear to be a truly amazing upgrade from my Desire.

Not a huge upgrade is it? All it will really do is to make your desires worth £25 second hand when it comes out. And of course provide HTC an excuse for yet more lag getting the latest version of android on the older phones. My 2 year old iPhone 3G is just about to be sold for £130. Kind of offsets the slightly more expensive iPhone 4 by...well, quite a lot. Surely HTC should be trying to bring their handsets into some kind of feature parity, or are they really going to be like the PCs of the 1990s?
Is that all you got for it?! I just sold my iPhone 3G 16gb and got £250 for it! Where did you sell it?

More news on HTC Desire HD aka HTC Ace and HTC Desire Z aka HTC Vision.

Apparently they're coming to T-Mobile in September, on the 22nd and 29th respectively. One released on each date.

The HTC Desire HD on T-Mobile will be renamed as the MyTouchHD and HTC Vision Z will be renamed as the G1Blaze.

Not really keen on T-Mobile getting hands on them and rebranding them.

That article gives me the impression that it's talking about TMobile USA when I follow the HSPA+ link. Could be wrong, but that's how it read to me.

dunno, wife did it but after "assessment" we apparently got £150ish each for our 8GB models, which were frankly "well used". that is what turned up in the bank anyway, i think mine may have got more than hers

I think you could be right. I don't think it said T-Mobile UK, just T-Mobile. That could mean anything!

HTC are holding a press event in London on September 15th and it's very strongly rumoured this is the date the HTC Desire HD/ACE will be launched! Which means there's a very good chance the phone will be released in October.

hmmm....still need to see if the new phones offer anything more than a new case or a keyboard...a few more MP from the same chip is not going to make it worth it..

it's not the extra megapixels i'm after either...it's the extra millimeters on the screen.

Can anyone recommend a good, sleek protective cover for the Desire?

here we go, a bit of speculating that someone has done. The image is a teaser that HTC released for the event and with a bit of photoshopping a fair bit has been found.

Cant remember if this is a Win7 phone or not but because Win7 is being released in october in the UK im getting worried that we may not see Android on it after all. There is a good chance im wrong though as they have the HD2 and the HD3 (rumoured) which are big Win7 phones, or will be i think. This should all be very interesting.

Interesting picture! Certainly looks like it could be the Desire HD....

I've never understood why (especially US/Canadian) networks rebrand a phone. And some aren't even rebranded as part of a deal of exclusivity.

Amazon briefly listed the HTC Desire HD on their website today as being due 1st October with the handset retailing for £415. It quickly got taken down! It certainly ties in with HTC's September 15th announcement........make of that what you will!

http://www.eurodroid.com/2010/08/ama...1-launch-date/

On another note Android 3.0 Gingerbread will be released in mid-October according to sources and handsets shipping with Gingerbread will be in November/December. Damn! Would have loved Desire HD to come with 3.0, not to worry i'm sure it can be updated from Froyo 2.2 to 3.0.

So as someone who's contract is expiring on 12th October with T-Mobile, should I hold fire on the Upgrade? Was looking to get a HTC Desire next month, but if this Desire HD comes out in October can I wangle one out of T Mobile then?

I would think more November time to be honest as originally suggested, however this is just a guess. Certainly worth waiting regardless.

It's bigger than the Desire and doesn't appear to come with an AMOLED screen, so two minus points, but it will support 4G (which isn't available in the UK yet) and has more storage memory for apps. There's also a forward facing camera, so you can video call to and from it and a camera with more megapixels on the rear.

Weigh up the options and see which you prefer. I think that unless a few more things change, it will be a close call between the Desire and the Desire HD as 4G isn't here in the UK yet and you loose the decent screen and gain more size.... We'll see.

Having done a bit of Googling, it appears it refers to TMobile USA, not TMobile UK.

The way i see it. If you already own a Desire, no point getting the Desire HD. However if you don't own the Desire and want to upgrade then i think the Desire HD would be perfect if you're looking for an Android smartphone.

Also the full specs have not been released so right now everything being spouted is just speculation. Sept 15th we'll all find out. I really do hope it comes with an AMOLED screen. The new ones they're replacing them with i've read will not be superior to AMOLED.

Again I'd suggest it comes down to which handset appeals most to you. They are both similar in spec, but there are a few subtle details that may swing people either way.

I own a Desire that I bought sim free when it was released, however my upgrade is due in November this year, so I may get another Desire and eBay it, get a Desire HD or wait another 10 minutes for HTC to release the next model up

Admiteddly I am going off internet rumour, however I'd say the larger size part is going to be more accurate than some other rumours due to the physical object being held on videos and photos. I'd also expect some of the rumours to be true, such as the forward facing camera, the 4G network part etc. but we'll see.

This basically looks like an Evo 4G and Desire cross to me and as the US already has the Evo 4G released it wouldn't be so hard to make a model which accepts a sim card and then sell it in Europe which may explain why such a phone is out so soon and why it's not vastly different to the Desire. This would seem like a realistic view to me, it's a case of making a GSM handset from a CDMA handset and calling it a Desire HD. Not a great deal of work, but a new handset out with a few more features...

Will The Ace/Desire HD support 4G though? I know there're suggestions that it's basically a European Evo 4G, but has it been confirmed the "4G" bit has been left in and not just supporting 3G/GSM only?

To me, the HD as rumoured seems to be a very sensible 'facelift' to the Desire. Since the Desire was released both the IP4 and the Galaxy S have come out.

One of the criticisms of the Desire is that it doesn't have the look of a flagship phone, the Galaxy S is selling itself as the 'worlds largest AMOLED screen' phone and the Desire's camera leaves a little to be 'desired'. Assuming they're doing something more to the camera than bumping up the megapixels, then they're addressing these issues.

I really really want one
