Humax pvr9150t - really impressed any tips ?

I recently purchased a PVR9150t from |Tesco's and am really impressed with it.

After having it plugged up for one day an over the air update happened and now I believe its on x.x.24 firmware (can't remember the full revision).

I have had only one (loosly termed lock up) when I came out from doing picture in picture.

The box became responsive after a few minutes, so it did not lock up.

Are there any tips that people can advise I should look out for ?
Potential lockups or known issues ?

So far I have recorded a few programs and films without any issues and the epg is working fine.

Really impressed with the box.

1 - The slide down flap on the remote is removable. Remove it. It gets in the way of the library button and the ad/replay buttons. The ad/replay buttons also skip a day forward/backwards on the epg.

2 - Once you think you have got use to the Humax read the manual. There could be something useful you have not realised is there. In my case it was that there are not one, but two, direct jump methods. See the first paragraph of section 5.6 of the manual which includes both methods.
From other posts on DigitalSpy different people miss different things

3 - Series link and accurate recording issues vary and can depend on how the box is used and/or the broadcaster of the programme. Post back if you have issues.
The 9000 series does not cope with being tuned incorrectly, but fortunately it looks as though you are OK.

4 - There is a rough edit function. This is useful if you record a few hours of a programme but are only interested in a small part of it. Using the edit you can roughly split the recording into separate chunks and then release some spare space by deleting the bits you do not want to keep

5 - If you are prepared to invalidate the guarantee you could modify the unit to enable transfer of recordings to your PC.
For the mod see http://humaxdisk.wikispaces.com/9300T-9150T+mods.
For some software to aid transfer see http://humaxdisk.wikispaces.com/HumaxRW

Thanks for the tips.

I will look into that.

Being the typical 'bloke', I have not even looked a tthe manual.

It can take quite some time to fill the EPG out to the full 8 days, from plugging in at the wall to fully populated EPG can take over an hour.

Also when you come out of standby the first time each day the EPG should have 7 days in the cashe, but filling up the 8th day could take a while.

You can avoid the wait by setting the PVR to wake up at 6am every morning and then go back into standyby at 8am. The PVR will update the EPG during this two hour period so when you need it later in the day, your EPG is full.

Go to MENU > Preferences > Time Setting > Power ON & Power OFF, remembering to choose a channel for the Humax to switch to.

Thanks for the tip, I will try that.

I had noticed the EPG can take a while to populate but I just accepted it for what it was.

Version 1.00.23 of the software cashes the epg to the disc while in stand-by.

To see which version you have:
Menu -> System -> Status.

The next over the air broadcast of this is expected 11th - 13th of August
