Unbelieveably, BT are raising their call prices by 10% from October, and rental charges by 50p per month.

See:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-10676934

It means the cost of connecting a call will go up from 9.9p to 10.9p (10p to 11p as they round up their prices).

Why does anybody still use BT for calls when they can use companies such as 18185?

BT really is taking the pi**.

The price increase inevitably makes the call packages more appealing to most, and remember the VAT is going up in January so everything VAT related will also be going up so it's not just BT who will be increasing its prices.

I totally agree poppasmurf.

Second rise in 6 months and the extra VAT in January to come as well.
it looks like everybody with a BT phone is now supplementing BT's acquisition of Sky Sports (IMHO but its quite a coincidence so soon after Sky increased its wholesale prices).

To get the cheaper price means your tied in for 12 months.

So glad my land line will be with O2 on Friday.

I don't use my landline for normal calls very often, I use my mobile most of the time. the only time I use my landline is at weekends where I can get calls to landlines for free.

Other phone operators will follow BT lead, i realised that unless you do a lot of calls abroad, then no other supplier is any cheaper. i could go with another supplier, but by the time i paid for caller Id, which most charge for, then I am paying Bt prices.

I pay a standard line rental charge for weekends only, that does me, even with the 50p a month rent rise, I don't think ii would save money by going with anyone else, but I will look into it.

I am in the process of moving my telephone and calls over to SKY. It's mainly because I want to pay monthly and as BT don't allow you to do that then I am moving away from them. Forgot BT do, but you have to do direct debit, but as I had problems with that I hate doing direct debit anyway.

Also for the for the last three months was £76.00 only £8 was made up of telephone calls the rest was call package and line rental. Which I feel is a rip off.

Bt will or did allow you to pay monthly over the post office, my next door neighbour do it, but then they still pay for their broadband with their phone bill.

But you still going to pay the BT line rental, so you will still pay more.

i think it is about time we had a system in this country where if you don't use the landline for calls directly, we can get a discount.

Still perfectly happy with BT.

Evening and weekend calls free and 1899 for daytime calls.

My phone bill is less than it's ever been.

Crazy in this day and age if you need a landline fair enough
but with 02 payg sim offering you 500mins in calls free a month from your post code to 01.02.03 numbers and 02 mobiles for £10 and you get that £10 in credit on your phone too

then asda payg give you all calls to landlines and any mobile number at 8p per minute

no need for a landline at those costs or calls at bt prices

You read my mind I have exactly that.

02 Favourite places so free calls to 01 02 etc numbers from my home address and also an ASDA mobile for when I'm away from the house.

But what do you do about internet ?

This is why people still use a landline,so they can get broadband.

Yes there is mobile broadband but it has it's limitations.

And with a landline and broadband you can also use it for VOIP calls.

I cannot see why landlines to not have the same price structure as mobiles ie you pay for so many mins a month anything over that you go to normal pricing. You are assured of a revenue stream. Also why give everyone phone books what a waste of paper mine goes in the bin!

someone got to pay for the upkeep of the phone lines and phone system. so we would still have a line rental, but they should have a cheap line rental service, then =people can choose to have a phone, use a voip phone or just use their mobiles.

The thing is the Telecom companies are only interested in what's best for them the customer was forgotten about long ago.

I'm also moving to O2 (I already have my broadband with them) in just over a weeks time because of yet another BT price rise

I have worked it out and I will save around £80 a year by moving to O2 and I'm no longer in contract with BT.

I wonder if BT have made a mistake introducing yet another price rise so soon after the old one as perhaps it will mean a lot of customers migrating away ?

What?

I've been on Monthly Whole Bill Direct Debit with BT for some time now.
If you read my whole post do state that they do , but only if you use direct debit which is something I don't trust with BT as I got stung once by them and took me 2 months to get it back.

I can see why BT can't do monthly billing. It is boarding on the ridiculous the way BT bill their customers. Why can't BT do monthly billing we are in the 21st Century and most companies that I deal with do monthly billing.

Anyway I'll be glad to get rid of these muppets anyway.

And yet others, myself included, are perfectly happy with them.

Of course, they only get the line rental as all my calls are either free (evening and weekends) or made using 1899.
