Survivor 2010: New Who - Companions and Notable Characters Round One

19-07-2010
Time to return to the New Series now then with an update of the Companions and Notable Characters Survivor that was first run last year.

Thanks to everyone who sent in their Predictions for the two Prediction games. As always, the leaderboards will appear when the first player(s) lost one or more of their predictions.

If you haven't played a Survivor game before and would like to join in it's all very easy. The idea is that, round by round you nominate your least favourite characters for eviction and the ones with the most votes are eliminated from the game.

The game then, is all about what you think of the characters that you can vote for. You should not consider how good the episode or episodes that the characters appear in were, just how much you like or dislike the character in question.

Votes can be posted on this thread or sent to me via PM. If you're going away or are unable to vote for any other reason you can always PM me a list of characters that you'd like to evict in order of preference.

You can also send your votes into the following round automatically. Just type "auto" with your choices & your choices will automatically be carried forward into the following round(s). So, if all of your choices are intact at the end of Round One they will all automatically be registered for Round Two (& all other subsequent rounds until they are voted out). However, if three are your choices are evicted the remaining three will automatically roll forward into Round Two, leaving you to pick another three characters.

Anyway, on with the game......

Below you will find 105 characters who have appeared in the New Series.

Please remember that for Sarah Jane Smith, K9 & Captain Jack Harkness you are considering their appearances in the New Series only. You should not judge them on appearances in the Classic Series, Torchwood, K9 & Company or The Sarah Jane Adventures.

You need to select which SIX of the 105 characters listed below you like the least and submit your choices either on this thread or via PM. The five characters with the most votes will be evicted from the game.

Here we go again!

Adam Mitchell (Bruno Langley) - worst actor ever playing the worst character ever...
Francine Jones (Adjoa Andoh) - irritating in the extreme.
Mickey Smith (Noel Smith) - waste of a good actor
The Runaway Bride: Lance Bennett (Don Gilet) - wooden
Rodrick (Paterson Joseph) - actor was miscast imho.
Nasreen Chaudhry (Meera Syal) - i know a lot of people liked this character, I just thought the acting by Meera here was awful

03) Mickey Smith (Noel Smith)
91) The Beast Below: Liz 10 (Sophie Okenedo) (Contaversial choice, but I really didn't get on with her at all)
52) The Runaway Bride: Lance Bennett (Don Gilet)
14) Francine Jones (Adjoa Andoh)
71) The Doctor's Daughter: Jenny (Georgia Moffett)
05) Adam Mitchell (Bruno Langley)

Woo! New game! As such, I've decided not to pull any punches this year, especially since I'm having difficulty keeping from missing deadlines for rounds! I may have to start doing the auto thing.

03) Mickey Smith (Noel Smith) - I liked him a bit in the middle, when he was investigating weird happenings and called the Doctor and Rose back to Earth, and when he went to help fight the Cybermen, but coming back and marrying Martha? I know I should really blame *her* for that, but that scene in The End of Time, Pt. 2 was cringeworthy almost on the level of Auton!Mickey.

07) Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman) - As things shake out this year, he's one of my least favorite characters this time around.

14) Francine Jones (Adjoa Andoh) - Probably my least favorite character.

19) Professor River Song (Alex Kingston) - Just stop teasing us and tell us who you are so we can be relieved or cry ourselves to sleep every night!

26) The Unquiet Dead: Gabriel Sneed (Alan David) - Sleazy!

59) The Family Of Blood / Human Nature: Joan (Jessica Hynes) - I did not like how she treated Martha. At all.

Blimey I'm really surprised at some of the choices so far. And doubt others will be surprised at mine, so this will be a very interesting game.

My votes:

Recurring Characters

08) The Face Of Boe (Struan Rodger) - A big round face and that is all. I just don't think he made much impact on me at all. Okay his lines were all important, the character is memorable for what it looked like, but it does nothing for me.

Season One

28) Aliens Of London: Doctor Sato (Naoko Mori) - love Sato in Torchwood but we aren't meant to compare with the Torchwood characters. Her role in Aliens was minimal so gotta go I'm afraid.

Season Two

38) New Earth: Matron Casp (Dona Croll) - Cats in hats. They all looked the same to me. Couldn't point out Matron Casp if she were a cat in the kennel club.

Season Three

58) 42: McDonnall (Michelle Collins) - Just don't like Michelle Collins and I didn't like this character at all.

Season Four

Season Five:

88) The Eleventh Hour: Dr. Ramsden (Nina Wadia) - Quite a small role that didn't make much impact.
105) The Pandorica Opens / The Big Bang: Aunt Sharon (Susan Vidler) - Great as the big bad in the Eleventh Hour but very small role in the finale so gotta go I'm afraid.

Adam Mitchell (Bruno Langley) - the only good thing about this character was the finger clicking joke when he was dumped at home

Francine Jones (Adjoa Andoh) - always seemed in a bad mood with everyone which rubbed off on me so I didn't really like her

The Unquiet Dead: Gabriel Sneed (Alan David) - I think syramu got this one right, he seemed sleazy

Bad Wolf / The Parting Of The Ways: Rodrick (Paterson Joseph) - thought the actor could have had a much better part

The Lazarus Experiment: Lady Thaw (Thelma Barlow) - not too keen on her and she didn't really last long

Midnight: Val Cane (Lindsey Coulson) - I really disliked the character which of course means Lindsey did a good job but she has got to go

Right, at least the first few rounds are always easy. I can see me having difficulty once we get some of the dead wood though:

Adam Mitchell (Bruno Langley)
I didn't mind him in Dalek but he completely did my head in during The Long Game. Just not the type of person the Doctor wants as a companion.
Novice Hame (Anna Hope
Not a fan of the cat people I am afraid.
New Earth: Matron Casp (Dona Croll)
As above.
The Idiot's Lantern: Bishop (Sam Cox)
Episode was very blah. The characters more so. Tommy gets a reprieve for now as I didn't mind him as much.
Fear Her: Maeve (Edna Dore)
My least favourite episode of New Who to date. Not even any of the characters were likeable.
42: McDonnall (Michelle Collins)
Almost my least favourite episode of New Who. Didn't like McDonnall at all. Well, I did like it when she ejected herself out of the air lock, that was good. D

As a little side game to run along the Predictions this Survivor will contain a Prediction Question for each round.

Basically the idea is that one of the characters from last year's Survivor is chosen and posters try and decide whether they will end up with a higher or lower chart position this year.

I'll be keeping a tally with results to be updated when the chosen characters are evicted. To make it a little more "interactive" I'll be asking a different poster to pick the character for consideration in each round.

I'll start you off with Ursula Blake from Love And Monsters. Last year her chart position was 91=.

So, do you think she'll be

Higher

or

Lower

this year?

All votes can be posted on this thread.

I was tempted to reference PYCR but decided not to. I don't think Ursula would want to be handled by those dolly dealers.....

I'm posting this before I scroll down and see what everyone else has posted so I don't expect anyone to have the same choices as me! Here goes:

The Idiot's Lantern: Bishop (Sam Cox) – I disliked this character intensely, what a plonker

Fear Her: Maeve (Edna Dore) – any old lady could have done this, the worst episode ever

Daleks In Manhattan / Evolution Of The Daleks: Tallulah (Miranda Raison) – the accent grated on me

The Sound Of Drums: Vivienne Rook (Nichola McAuliffe) – this character didn’t have any impact on me whatsoever

The Next Doctor: Rosita (Veile Tshabalala) – she was far too gobby for my liking

The Pandorica Opens / The Big Bang: Aunt Sharon (Susan Vidler) – a very small part which was neither here not there as far as I’m concerned

There were another 3 that I would have liked to have added but I'll save them for the next round!

Bestest Regards

i have a hunch she will do better because there isn't that mass block of L&M characters this time, I think they were a pretty big target all together last year, a bit like the ones from THE might be this time around.....

Well, first I'll vote for the characters that I don't even remember;

Dr Sato (Aliens of London)
Thomas Milligan (Last of the Time Lords)
Col Hugh Eddington (Unicorn and the Wasp)

Then the character that was barely there;

Aunt Sharon (The Pandorica Opens/The Big Bang)

Then the simply irritating characters;

Minnie Hooper (The End of Time)
Liz 10 (The Beast Below)

Dr Sato was Tosh in Torchwood, how could you forget her?

Thomas Milligan was the hunky chap in Last of the Time Lords that Martha was engaged to (off screen)

Col Hugh Eddington was the chap who pretended to be in a wheelchair and was in to porn (in a manner of speaking....)

I only watched Children of Earth out of Torchwood. I'm aware of Tosh having been in the earlier series of Torchwood, but don't recall her from Aliens of London. I sort of remember who Thomas Milligan was now, but he was a bit boring, so he can stay And the good Colonel still eludes my memory.
