Anyone else here a fan of these guys? I am eagerly looking forward to their new album Senior, which is finally being released in September, after several delays.

Junior was one of my favourite albums of last year so I have high hopes, although they have said Senior will be very different (hence the opposite titles I guess). But they have changed their style with all their 3 albums so far and have barely put a foot wrong, so I trust them

To be honest, I've only got their Melody AM album, but I do play it a lot.

'Melody AM' is one of my favourite electronic albums of all time. I haven't heard any of their other work but I bought 'The Understanding' today and am interested to see if it matches the quality of their debut, if it is then I'll definitely be looking forward to the new album.

Melody AM is a stone-cold classic, of that there's not really any doubt.

The Understanding was more vocal-oriented and darker, and although it didn't come close to matching Melody AM, it had some great songs like Triumphant (which is often used in tv shows and trailers), Only This Moment, What Else Is There, and Dead To The World which is particularly wonderful.

I'm a bit surprised not many people here seem to have heard Junior. It's much better than The Understanding imo. It's their most energetic and upbeat album, but it has some really wonderful slower songs too. It does take a few plays through to get used to it, but it's one of my favourite albums from last year, and for me it's just as enjoyable as Melody AM, for different reasons. Royksopp fans should definitely check it out.

Royksopp have said Senior will be "more introspective and withdrawn with a greater emphasis on creating atmosphere as opposed to Junior which is more about immediate, direct energy"

Here's a few highlights from their last 2 albums:

From The Understanding: Triumphant, Only This Moment, What Else Is There?

And from Junior: Happy Up Here, The Girl & The Robot, Vision One

I remember the first time I heard "Only this Moment", I was a Sales Assistant at Peacocks. I was in the midde of Recovery  and then "Only This Moment" started playing on the shop floor, I couldn't get it out of my head the whole day but sadly I had no idea who it was. About a year and a half later I watch a Lindsey Lohan filmed called Just My Luck where the song featured, found the soundtrack and now it's one of my most played songs on my ipod. I also like "Remind me."

I certainly like their stuff including what they have done on Melody AM, Junior and Senior. I also like the way that they are willing to be experimental and try things out so you get to hear something unexpected at times, e.g. Röyksopp's Night Out on Melody AM.

Just for information, Röyksopp's Svein Berge and Torbjørn Brundtland originate from Tromsø in Norway above the Arctic Circle. The word røyksopp http://no.wikipedia.org/wiki/R%C3%B8yksopp in Norwegian means puffball and a literal translation would be smoke-mushroom because of the mass of tiny spores which are released once skin is punctured and as for 'eple', that word means apple.

Yes they have progressed their sound with every album. They have something to offer for all fans of electronic music. Some of their instrumentals in particular are phenomenal.

I was aware Royksopp translates as 'smoke mushroom', didn't know 'eple' means 'apple' though, kinda obvious now you say it funny that they made a song about that

Royksopp uploaded this video a few weeks back. It's quite strange really. They call it 'a vivid depiction of some of the events that occurred during an intended stay in Barbieland'. They are dressed as an old guy and a hobo. Some of the songs from Senior are playing in the background.

Right now, I'm listening to, and enjoying, the latest album Senior (on Tricky Two right now). Btw, kutox, you seem to like experimental stuff, have you ever listened to the classic album Leftism http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leftism_%28album%29, http://www.last.fm/music/Leftfield/Leftism?ac=leftfi by Leftfield?

I love Melody AM, possibly one of my all time favourite albums but I wasn't so keen on Junior. I've not heard Senior yet though, I'll have to give it a try.

Senior's good stuff and I recommend it. It can be heard on Free Spotify (20 hrs/month) so you can listen and decide if you want to buy the album.

I love experimental electronica stuff, but I haven't heard that album, no. Got to be honest - I'm quite ignorant about old music, I really need to be listening to more stuff. I will definitely listen to that album some time. I'm actually desperately seeking out more music right now, so thanks for the recommendation

If you do listen to Leftism, kutox, l'd be interested to hear what you think. Leftfield's music can still be found in adverts and that how l found out about them. I used Google to find out who the duo was and what the relevant album was!
