It could be the weather. We have been plagued by them, and so have several people I know.

I had this last year they were in my sink pipes I put lots of bleach down plug hole , put up some fly paper and bought this thing from Tesco that is like a air freshner but is meant to be repellent to insects - sorted mine out.
They really loved the fly paper it caught hundreds of them. |

I had the same problem a few years back.Bluebottles.About 30 a day(only showed up in the daylight hours).Started off with 1 or 2 flies, building up to 30/40.Lasted about a week. Then started tailing off to zero.Never saw them again.
Windows were tight shut. Spoke to a guy who knows about these things. He reckoned it was a dead mouse in the foundations or wall cavity.Fly had laid it's eggs and this was the brood hatching, making it's way towards daylight.Coming up through the holes drilled for the washing machine, sink pipes. I didn't even know how the mouse got in,same way as the fly i guess. They really creeped me out.Sometimes i thought i'd got rid of them. Then late at night i'd catch a glimpse of a couple of them,up in the corner of the room.Really freaked me out. Anyway. If it's that with you.Don't worry. They'll dissapear just as quickly as they arrived i'm sure. |

Get an insect o cutor. We got one last year and leave it on at night in the kitchen, empty out the tray every week and there are normally about 30 flies in it. Disgusting things! Only brought is as no amount of cleaning seemed to get rid of the problem

Same here. Got home from work one night last week and flies all over the place. Hosed everything down with raid and opened the windows.
overheard somebody at work complaining they'd had similar probs as well. Must be the muggy weather. |

I had this problem last year. Came home from work to find about 30 flies on my kitchen window and more in the dining room sitting on the curtains. I gave them a spray with a fly spray.
More came back the next day, not so many, but they got the fly spray treatment too. This carried on for about a week until they were eventually all gone. Absolutely revolting though, I couldn't stop cleaning the kitchen! |

We have had a problem with blue bottles for the past 8 years. They appear in my daughters bedroom and dinning room in the middle of July for about a week. They come down the chimney I just get to the point that I'll do something about it when they disappear, everyone says we must have a dead bird in the chimney but would it last 8 years.

We had this too back in our UK house. Came back from a 3 week holiday and there were about 20+ of the little gits. My Dad had been house sitting for us and had obviously been struggling with them as he'd put up fly paper and the window sticker thing. They built up to about 30 or 40 a day then tailed off and we never saw another one. I figured something must have died near the plugs/washing machine outlet and they were getting in that way but after 3 weeks there was no smell and my dad said he hadn't noticed anything. Eeeew gives me the heebie-jeebies just thinking of how many I had to hoover up every day

Have a similar problem here. Never noticed as many big bluebottles or those even bigger black flies as there is this year. A window left open for a couple of minutes and they invade.
I usually hate killing any creature but these dirty buggers have just probably flown in after munching on a dog turd in someone's garden. It makes my blood boil when they're buzzing all around in the kitchen - so a killing frenzy begins, and it's quite entertaining swatting them. |

They reproduce very quickly. I had the problem one summer.. left some rubbish out for one day in the kitchen and bang they were in and before I knew it the kitchen had lots of them. Lost count of how many I killed.

I have about 50 of these in my kitchen, but because of my religion I can't do harm to any living creature so have to just leave a window open for them to get out and some cheese for them to eat.

I don't use fly spray or anything like that. I just don't want to breath it in. I'm a good aim and dancing around with a swat can be good exercise. |

I could talk of my fly event of '95 but it will cause fainting in the elderly and infirm to hear the tale.
