I've got this theory but don't laugh (though everyone else does)......

.....I hate flies but it's a question of know your enemy.

I think if you kill flies, you attract more of the little buggers. Think about it, their job in life is to deal with dead decaying stuff.

Of course, it's a different problem if you've got a decaying mass that is attracting flies that lay eggs (or whatever they do). That's a special problem that needs special attention.

But if you just have some flies that have wandered in, don't kill them. For every one you kill, you will attract a few more. Shoo them out. It takes time and effort but you don't get a fly problem.

Now, imagine me with my 'fly theory'. I spend a lot of the summer in front of open doors and windows shooing flies. My family get a huge laugh out of it. But we don't have flies.

Yes that's bad. That's not the normal fly problem that I get.

Sorry, I'm out of my depth with that one. That would be a lot of shooing! (But I'm so tied to my theory I'd probably give it a go!)

Citronella, Bergamot, Lemon scents...all these cirtus scents flies tend to avoid. Get some citronella candles, light them so the scent will fill the room - it should rid them!

It may not be where the flies are clustering, look elsewhere in the apartment. Although if you have not found a source after all these years, maybe it's Paranormal.

Have you got those fly paper roll things ? I had a few flies after I killed some rats and the fly papers were very effective.
