Sonia is being selfish
Sonia ,and Martin in agreeing with her, is being selfish in not getting married in Walford. Instead of running away she should have stood up for herself and insisted on having the wedding she wanted.
She is being selfish in not allowing Martin's family and her family and friends the chance to be there. Runing away is not the best way to assert their independence. |

I agree. I thought it was very cold of Sonia to force Martin to choose between her or his family. His mother's whole life revolves around him, and now that Mark has died I can't believe Sonia would expect her fiance to break Pauline's heart. It's an utterly selfish thing to do.

Having been a bride myself, and I actually had the luxury of having supportive parents, I can understand Sonias frustration. Not only is it a stressful time anyway but the way Dot and Pauline were going on I think I would have buggered off as well!! She did try and stick up for herself and Martin but she was completely disregarded.
However, I think they could have made a call to them to say sorry and not to worry etc.....! |

I think if I had Dot and Pauline taking over my wedding arrangements, I'd flee the square too. But, how could Sonia, essentially, make Martin chose between his mother and her? That is so out of character for her......... bleedin' scriptwriters, they can't do anything right.

I am sorry, but tonighte episode proved without a doubt that Eastenders is the biggest pile of crap.
It was another dragged out episode where nothing much actually happened and was just an excuse to drag out Sonia & Martin's wedding to the end of the week? Do they think any of us care? Nope sorry. The worst thing as usual was the script. What the **** are they doing with Sonia's character? Over night she has suddenly turned into this cold hearted bitch who won't even let Martin's own mother attend his wedding and get this, the episode ended with her asking Martin to choose between her or her mother. What the F*** That wasn't Sonia talking, that was the script writers and judging by the dialogue in tonights episode, it was obviously written by an eight year old. I can't believe what is happening to this show. Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse, it does. |

I thought the episodes were good at the moment - humor and tricky situations (Kat, big Mo (I love her 'love affair' with Adi).
I have never had much sympathy for Martin but tonight I thought his reactions were spot on. I do not like Sonia for her reactions but I can 'understand' where she's coming from - I'm sure she's pi**ed off being told what to do, how to react over this past couple of years (How are you coping?...). But however she should be able to understand that she is being selfish - especially asking Martin to choose. I thought Sonia's reactions were understandable from her characters point of view but I certainly dont agree with them. As for the scripts, I feel as if the oil and vinegar of recent times is beginning to turn into a quite tasty mayonnaise - more please

I thought she was being selfish. Where are they gonna live anyways after they get married? Are Dot and Pauline gonna put them up?!? Dot and Pauline would do my head in as well but at the end of the day I would want my family there...I mean she has her Grandad there as it was important for him to give her away but she won't let Pauline attend when clearly it is important to Martin and Pauline. Not really fair is it?
What also bothered me...where did they suddenly get the money to stay in a 3 star hotel for how many nights AND pay for the wedding?!? Also...since when does the cleaner provide room service bringing in champagne? I mean she is a student (or am I wrong?) and he works on the stall...which I don't recall him doing recently?!? Could be wrong. I totally agree with her sudden change in character?!? What the f... Dumb script writers! |

And when she said "I've never been surer about anything in my life!!"
I thought she was supposed to be clever. |

She is being a turd, but not as big a one as the script writers at the moment.
They have turned her, Martin, Alfie, Kat, and Dot's characters to complete opposites of themselves and effectively ruined them. It is dire at the moment. For the first time ever I don't put the tv on to specifically watch EE anymore. It is soooo bad. I've noticed that Tues and Thurs are a complete pile of cow pat and are just used to prolong storylines that they want to end on a Friday. Anyway, all that aside, are Sonia and Martin soaps ugliest and most unconvincing couple ever, or am I being a bit harsh??!!

I didn't watch last night's (can only stand so much excitement
Martin on the other hand has always been selfish and arsey so I could see him having a strop and refusing to cooperate. The whole storyline of their nuptials has been extremely badly handled, it was a good opportunity for the writers as Sonia is a popular character, but no, they had to bog it up yet again. It really is getting worse by the week. Reading the easties blog is far more entertaining. |

In tonights show she falsely agrees to go back and then spends all her time with a sour expression on her face so that Martin will change his mind

There is also the much pointed out fact that Martin is responsible for the death of her supposed sole mate etc etc. With regard to her being selfish about the wedding etc I'm not sure I agree with this. If I was getting married and my soon to be mother in law was constantly sticking her nose in I'd go nuts BUT I would have it out with her and say if you want to be there fine but you will be at MY wedding that will be organised as I want it to be, if you don't like it tough. Making Martin pick between her and his mother, it shouldn't have to be an issue I think a husbands first priority should always be his wife and vice versa too. Why do men ALWAYS stay so attached to their mother's apron strings, is it not embarrasing for them?

I dont think she's being selfish at all. i think Pauline and Dot are totally out of order by trying to organise the wedding they want rather than giving a toss what Sonia and Martin actually want.
For my first marriage, I was stupid enough to allow the families to push us into a big wedding and I hated every second of it. It cost my parent over 15 grand for one day and it was a complete waste of money. When I got married for the second time last year, we decided we were having a registry office do and only a handful of people there. Both families kept on and on at us to change our minds. My mother in law even resorted to turning on the tears about it 'not being in the eyes of god' but we stuck to our guns and I'm delighted we did. Too many families lose sight of what its all about and the way Dot and Pauline carried on is how it is for many people. |

Sonia was wrong to make Martin choose between her and his mum, but having experienced the stresses of getting married myself I can understand why she was so frustrated with Pauline and Dot. To be honest if they were my relatives I would have told them to stuff it and done the same as she did. At the end of the day it was there big day and they were choosing the wedding to suit there tastes (even down to the wedding dress). So I don't agree that Sonia and Martin were wrong getting married without there family, because there family were responsible for it happening in the first place.

To some i suppose it can seem selfish, but why is it selfish to want your one day to be the way you want it and not what "the family want". After all it does not say in the wedding vows obey your parents. At the end of the day, there are people out there who think what they did was wrong and those whose don't (me being one of the latter) and nothing will make us all agree. It's just good fun to air these point of views.
