Furniture throws
Claudette Monet

Hi.... I've always trained my cats not to sit on the furniture but my current 2 boys have consistently defied me so I have to put covers on the chairs to protect them and visitors can sit on them without getting a hairy backside.

Unfortunately the throws I use seem to attract and hold the cat hairs and always look so shabby. Does anyone know of any purpose-made throws or a material that would better serve this purpose please?
Thanks
CM

I have the same problem. I have fleece blankets on mine and change them every couple of days. I would have some spare throws and if you know if anyone's coming change them.

No but when you find out, please let me know. I end up buying cheap fleece throws from Ikea and throwing them away - not very economical but the hair never comes out after a wash and I don't like ruining my washing machine with hairy blankets.

I would be interested too.
Hoovering my throws or washing them in the machine doesn't seem to get rid of all the cat hairs.

I have a couple of thick cotton throws, got them from Dunelm - they don't hold hairs though one of them plucks quite easily. I think it's just one of the pleasures of cat/dog ownership

Before putting our fleece throws in the machine, I put on a washing up glove and scrape the fur off - it's very effective and gets off the majority of the fur, then the washing machine removes the remainder.

My mother swears by running the blanket over wet, dewey grass first thing in the morning and that apparently removes most of the hair before it goes into the washing machine. Never tried it myself.

My bed gets covered in cat fur despite me grooming the cats regulary. I have bought a lint/fur remover that I roll across the bedding and it picks up the fur. I usually have to pull off about 5 layers as it picks up so much fur and looses its stickiness but it does the job

I dont use throws on the sofa, but the doggie bed itself gets smothered in fur. I spent £60 on it, so i do try and wash it regularly, but the fur that comes out of it is incredible. I put mine in the tumble drier to get off the majority of the fur, but its still smothered.

On the sofa one dog sleeps on a large cushion, and the other always sleeps on the floor. Plus, i have a leather sofa so its wipe'able.
