What the heck? I've just been reading on the Soap news bit on here and read that. Utter rubbish. As if it isn't bad enough Dev having cancer, they also give Sunita a tumour? Perhaps they want to have a new location, Weatherfield Hospice.

It might have been OK Coronation Street doing the Dev storyline, but Sunita too? I'm sorry but that is just far too OTT for my liking. I don't think it's just me when I say that cancer storylines, for the most part, are just completely boring.

My mother had treatment for cancer all last year, but that doesn't make me want to watch a cancer storyline on Corrie - quite the opposite!

But I think I will trust Corrie on this one, they usually handle storylines well, but I agree two in one year does seem a bit much.

so, whats the betting that dev and sunita will end up getting it on again after they have both had cancer trouble? I think its a bit weird they're doing it with sunita but who knows.

Just like to say that I'm not using this to get one up on you alan45, but my Grandma died of Throat cancer. I was in no way saying cancer is boring, and should be looked at as something unimportant...I was talking merely from the point of view of interesting storylines.

Oh dear. What a dreadful storyline. Just when it seemed that Corrie had struck the perfect balance between drama and comedy, they (allegedly) bring two decent characters to the brink of a painful death. This is something that EastEnders does.

I really hope this is just tabloid rumour-mongering.

I didnt think you were. What I meant is it could be a very interesting storyline and if handled in the usual Corrie fashion could help dispel a lot of myths about The Big C and who knows maybe even help some people

Yeah Alan I guess it could, but in all honesty I don't think Corrie need to have both Dev and Sunita suffering from cancer...but we'll see how the storyline pans out.

We have already had Alma passing away from cancer on Corrie.... now another two !!! Not only is it too much... but there are probably many many people suffering from cancer or who have suffered from Cancer.. who watch Corrie.. as an outlet, their favourite programme of the week perhaps.... and its hardly good for their morale to be faced with it all over again. Speaking for myself..... my mum watches Coronation Street every episode.. never misses it.... and she had bowel cancer three years ago. Thank God.... all is well to date... and long may it stay that way..... but its hardly going to do her any good to be brought back to those awful days.... when Dev's storyline starts. I do wish the producers would give some thought to their viewers and those who may have been through very bad times in the past, and DONT want to be reminded of it.

Well I dont think there is a home in the British Isles where cancer hasnt touched, (my own included). And similar to your Mum my wife too had bowel cancer. I have also lost a sister to Cancer My point is that if the story is handled in Corrie fashion as opposed to EE fashion then it may wel give hope to people who still think of Cancer as the end of the world. . After all people do relate to soap characters. Of course I can very well understand that there are many among you who will find a cancer storyline to close to home or too soon after a bereavement. Howver if it is treated half as well as the death of baby Billy then I think Corrie might well pull it off.

It is a little extreme. I mean how much can one Street take?

It does seem to be a little much, with the death of baby Billy, Dev's cancer and now Sunita with a tumour. Although I have great faith in the Corrie scriptwriters, I'm really worried about this turning into something EE would dream up. (Plus how the hell will Weatherfield Hospital cope? We all know the only staff they've got are Martin, Karl and Todd, - Martin's just been suspended, Karl's about to dissappear, so that just leaves poor old Todd to cope on his own )

why does everyone assume that they will die, assuming its true? cancer is becoming more and more curable these days, cancer does not = death!
besides a brain tumour isn't really classed as a cancer.......

I also have faith in our no. 1 soap to deliver realist soap drama, as they always do - lets watch before we judge?

It's not that the ideas are rubbish, it's the fact it's all happening at once. I'd prefer for dramatic storylines like this to be spaced out otherwise it becomes overkill.

the fact is one in three of us will have cancer at one point in our lives, so it is not that unbelievable that 2 people who know each other have cancer at the same time, it was just in the news this week about a mother who had cancer and then found out her daughter had it aswell. these things happen in real life...so good luck to the corrie scriptwriters, im sure they will handle it well.

I think (as someone who has beaten cancer twice) that it will be a fantastic storyline IF and only if it shows the exact way that treatment happens, and none of this, "I;ve had an operation, now I'm cured".

It could dispell a few myths about cancer

and don't forget we lost Alma to cancer reasonably recently too. They did handle it sensitively, but Corrie needs to be careful. In the past they've been able to pull in a greater number of viewers, because of a high standard of dialogue, realism and humour, without needing to resort to continuous traumatic storylines one after the other - like other soaps.
