Flipping hell ... that was brilliant. I thought Moffat had done wonders with Dr Who but he's just raised the bar to a completely new level. Maybe I'm over-exagerating, as I'm on a bit of a high after watching it, but I think that was the est bit of TV I've EVER seen.

An amazing script, clever, original and witty. Great casting and acting all round, and brilliant and at times ground-breaking direction. Bloody hell ... I'm already PRAYING for a second series.

I hardly ever watch UK drama, but really enjoyed this. Lets hope the quality is maintained over the next 2 episodes.

It is a while since I watched anything so entertaining on so many levels (possibly the 1st Cranford was the last thing). I thought it was bloody brilliant!!! Wonderfully acted, brilliant twist with Mark Gatkiss as Mycroft and all together hugely pleasurable

Well, I picked the right bottle.

I thought it was very good. It had a dark, se7en-style feel to it and, although set in the present day, had these echoes of the past, and the original Holmes period, all over it. I didn't think Phil Davis' was quite right as the cabbie, however. Didn't find him at all chilling, which he should have been, and towards the end it was slightly lacking in tension, I thought, but overall I really enjoyed it and now have it on Series Record.

Something to look forward to on Sunday nights. Thank God for that!

Are these three episodes a trial run / extended pilot for future series or intended to be a one-off. I would love to see this become a returning thing.

Yeah, it was very good... see, the BBC can do it when they try.

That would be Doctor Who the flagship BBC1 show?

That was great fun.

Stumped on this, but who played the serial killer? I recognised his voice but couldn't put a finger on it...

They're the only UK broadcaster that can, and that's the reason I'm against scrapping the license fee and privatising it / shutting it down, we'd be left without any decent British drama.

As I said before great performance. Yes, it was Doctor Who esque, but I dont care.

I enjoyed it as a well-scripted drama, and I like Martin Freeman, but, for me, they were not Holmes and Watson, and Holmes was characterised as way over the top, in fact rather like the current Doctor Who character but that may be because of the creator Steven Moffat.

One of the best programmes I have watched in a long, long time. Excellent stuff all round.

ITV I guess could point at Whitechapel, and Channel 4 are capable of broadcasting the odd excellent drama, such as Boy A. I guess the issue for all of our broadcasters is that for every Whitechapel and Sherlock, they produce a far higher proportion of rubbish drama as well.

Has the scrapped first pilot put the BBC off commissioning a further series.
