That was great fun.
Stumped on this, but who played the serial killer? I recognised his voice but couldn't put a finger on it... |

ITV I guess could point at Whitechapel, and Channel 4 are capable of broadcasting the odd excellent drama, such as Boy A. I guess the issue for all of our broadcasters is that for every Whitechapel and Sherlock, they produce a far higher proportion of rubbish drama as well.

It was brilliantly clever, v.witty, esp " a three patch problem". Worth the license fee, that's what the Beeb can do......

Absolutely loved it. I usually find myself distracted when I watch tv and end up on twitter or here, but that only happened once during this, oddly enough by smoke paprika tins holding cutlery at the restaurant, which I just had to tweet about
.Can't wait for next week. |

An absolutely brilliant debut episode and some excellent casting in the lead rolls.

I have to say i really enjoyed it. I watched the first ten minutes and I really thought it wouldnt work for me. There was just something about it being a modern day version, and the characters that didnt work for me. Then suddenly it just all worked, and i found my self really engrossed with it.
Spoiler.... The only slight problem i had is that no one else at the flat realised about the cab driver. Watson knew they had chased a cab, heard Sherlock say about going around undetected, knew the phone was now nearby, just as someone new was coming in, and at the same time knew it wasnt in the house due to the previous call. |

I noticed the second bottle seemed to stick to the cab drivers hand slightly. Were his hands clammy from being nervous of putting out the poisoned pill?

I really liked this. I thought the gay jokes were brilliant. Had me laughing out loud, especially the scene at the restaurant, when Watson asked Holmes if he had a girlfriend or a boyfriend.
On a slightly different note, after watching this you can see still how much current TV shows take from Sherlock Holmes, especially US crime/mystery dramas, like House, Monk, Psych and The Mentalist. Although, the current Sherlock reminded me the most of Patrick Jane from the Mentalist. |

I enjoyed that - it was pure deductive work from a detective - the essence of SH - much more interesting for the average intelligent viewer than being bombarded with forensic evidence jargon.
Who reckons both pills were deadly? |

I loved it - enough nods to the traditional with Inspector Lestrade, Mrs Hudson and the violin and brought back up to date very cleverly. I also found Sherlock strangely attractive.
Thought the performances by the two leads was fantastic and Martin Freeman was much better as Watson than I would have imagined. |

Phil Davis played another odious character in Bleak House - he self-cumbusted in that one.
I first saw him in Quadrophenia so when I see him these days a lot older it's a bit weird! Anyway - that was really good. I thought it a bit slow to start but once it got going it was great. I guessed about Mycroft but someone had to be Sherlock's brother. I wonder what Moriarty is? I thought it had a real period feel to it despite the modern setting. It was also quite dark (lighting) which had me peering rather a lot. I loved the jokes and also the texting on screen. Not so keen about showing his thoughts on screen too, thought the texting was enough of that. Yes, a Doctor Who feel to it as well, but to be expected I think because Sherlock Holmes is a Doctorish type of character anyway, whether or not Steven Moffat is writing him. Looking forward to next week!

I agree - I too thought Martin Freeman was brilliant - the best he has ever been in my opinion.

It is a while since I watched anything so entertaining on so many levels (possibly the 1st Cranford was the last thing). I thought it was bloody brilliant!!! Wonderfully acted, brilliant twist with Mark Gatkiss as Mycroft and all together hugely pleasurable
How many of us fell into the trap of thinking he was Moriaty - I did! Glad he's the big brother though. Wonder when Moriaty will make an appearance, in the last episode?

Has the scrapped first pilot put the BBC off commissioning a further series.
I really enjoyed it - and thats going some considering crime drama isn't usually my thing. Both leads are fantastic and I love the raport they're building up already. The plot was brilliantly intricate - and so Steven Moffat. I hope the next episodes hold up well - with different writers (I think episode 3 is Gattis). |

They're the only UK broadcaster that can, and that's the reason I'm against scrapping the license fee and privatising it / shutting it down, we'd be left without any decent British drama.

< nitpick >
Why does 221B have its own front door on the street? Where is 221A? And why does 221B have 3 doorbells at the side? Is it divided into 221B(1), 221B(2) and 221B(3)? < /nitpick > Other than that... Fcuking Ace! Loved every second

Really enjoyed it. Very silly, but in the best possible way. Been a long time since I've enjoyed a British detective show as much as that, looking forward to next week's.
