I agree to some extent. It's like John Simm's Master. Everything these days has to be over-the-top and ridiculous. Eric Porter in the ITV series as Moriarty was just perfect.

Completely agree - I'll hate waiting a year for more of this, but if it's to the same standard then I'm (nearly) happy to do it

These shows in threes would be great for Christmas (Xmas Eve, Boxing Day, NY Day) and Easter (Good Friday, Easter Saturday and Easter BH Monday)

I think long series of 8-12 shows would dull them down too much and the quality would suffer

Always saw Moriarty as a shadowy figure manipulating things in the background-- not the host of a channel 4 entertainment show.

Now that's what I'm talking about, charisma. He was perfect and you can see him really matching Holmes.

Well I have to say that I thought Moriarty was great and I am a big fan of the books as well as the Jeremy Brett series. This Moriarty completely unsettled me...he seemed so manic and all over the place which was in sharp contrast to Sherlock's calm facade.
I'm looking forward to seeing what Moriarty gets up to in the next series, he looks like he's capable of doing anything!

Agreed.

First hour and fifteen minutes were brilliant. Then that happened... I mean, I'm used to disappointing, anti-climactic endings - heck, I've been a Doctor Who fan for years - but that has left me feeling so deflated. Have they seriously spent this whole series building up to Jim ****in' Moriarty? Phil Mitchell is scarier than he was!

Professor Moriarty should be refined, and classy. Not a high-voiced, skinny thing that was more believable as the gay technician with a crush on Sherlock. I kept waiting for him to be revealed as carrying a bomb as well - I could not believe that's how they'd chosen to portray Moriarty.

Otherwise? Fantastic episode. They really, really just need to RetCon that ending.
Hello.

Great episode! Really wasn't expecting Watson to turn up at the end. Although for a moment I thought it was Graham Norton who was Moriarty!

I don't actually watch this, was the Lovely Lauren any good in it?
Not sure I really want to know the answer, just think she's rather lovely.

Surely Mark Gatiss wrote that one?

THIS is what a Moriarty/Sherlock confrontation should be like:

Lauren had a very small but beautifully formed part in it

It was a very small role, she was fine with what she had to do, nothing outstanding, but she was only in two scenes

Disappointed with Moriarty. He should be understated and creepy, not hammy and wide eyed. Such a shame, they seem to have got the wrong person.

They've given themselves enough wriggle-room to change him if they want

All these negative reactions to Moriarty and he was only onscreen for about 5 minutes! I'm looking forward to the next series and seeing his character explored/revealed a little bit more.

So I was actually quite lucky to catch her as I surfed past then

Yes, but Moffatt also came up with the concept of the BBC series with him. I just thought I'd mention him

No need for the eye rolls, I'm just saying. Of course people are going to judge. That was the point; to bring him in for the finale, and for the viewers to see him for those small moments. I think they went overboard with the wide eyed madness.

Really? I thought you liked Moriarty, looking at your posts

The more I think about it the more I dislike him, however you can't really form a full opinion on ten minutes. I'll wait to the next series, which is pretty much a given.

No offence meant its just it was only 5 minutes of Moriarty and he could be very different/toned down when we see him next. I have to admit that he did make me think of Graham Norton when his voice went high pitched...albeit a completely psychotic Graham Norton!
Hello.

Was it just me, or when the TV woman died did it say she died age 48 on the TV, yet when they went into the room with the body they said she was 54?

I think it was a dig at how people on TV lie about their age

Nah it's alright Reminded me of Graham Norton to. That's what I didn't like. Maybe I was expecting too much, or I guess it's just I'd imagined the character to be played a bit differently.
