Agree. Dont understand how people think he is some wet behind the ears actor when he is highly accomplished. I expect some may be more annoyed at the way Moriarty was written at the end,

Maybe so but to me he was trying too hard. Taking a wild stab at being sinister but just sounding like a child making silly noises.

As someone posted I hope Moriarty is the one holding the laser weapon-and if Moffat/Gatiss are reading this thread-nows the time to rewrite the next script!

Exactly. Just like the fiancee's brother was seemingly for no reason but he played a bigger part. Nothing is without reason.

I thought he was very good too, that almost cringey sort of creepiness he has about him works really well for the role.

Great final episode, must say. I have actually liked each episode better. This weeks really was a nail biter!

I think they needed Moriarty to be in some way original and unexpected rather than the typical cliched arch-villain. It was a spot on performance in my opinion.

If Holmes and Moriarty are roughly the same age / generation then a sinistre / traditional Moriarty might have looked a bit silly - I like the surprise (but I also like to be wrong with these sorts of programmes too)

I think it is too late for a Christmas Special this year. Huge pity but hopefully we will get a series 2 and Christmas Special next year. Would love to see how they would update The Hound Of The Baskervilles.

They'd already changed enough by setting the series in modern-day London. We need the main elements to remain true to the original for the series to work, IMO, and one of those elements is a refined Moriarty - Sherlock's equal. That's how he was originally created.

They are hardly going to change their plans for the show based on a few moaning minnies on DS forum you know, and nor should they....

I would also love to see more of Golem in the next series too. The scene with him fighting both Holmes and Watson was excellent. He was very sinister - and huge.

Listened to Benedict on radio 2, he's 'only' got Tinker, Tailor (remake) to film and War Horse with Speilberg to film next. Don't know when he'd be free to film new Sherlock episodes.

He quite clearly is Sherlock's equal though. He is obviously as intelligent as him. He's a consulting criminal, Sherlock's a consulting detective.

I don't think he was presented as unrefined or unequal to Sherlock. The only thing changed is him being a bit younger, which was completely necessary for him to be believable as a highly sophisticated computer hacker.

maybe not, but I reckon a larger part of the wider audience will be scratching their heads -the guy sounded like Graham Norton-which in this context doesnt help much.

This is definately one of the most exciting shows Ive seen on tv for a long time. Brilliant cast. Fantastic scripts. Lots of surprises, the biggest surprise being that there was only 3 episodes

Bring it back fast and give it a proper run!
I want my share of the license to be spent only on this show!!

I liked him too. Probably what I'd imagine a child 'prodigy'(he was a maths genius in the books from what I can remember), grown up into a mad criminal genius to be like. In modern times in this case.

I agree -he could easily be a Bond villain!

Exactly, he needed to be a young, insane genius to fit with the fact that he conducts his criminal activities through being a master computer hacker.

The way Moriarty was played will split people, of course it will! The one's who didn't like him (myself included) will just have to deal with it I guess.

Agree and I am glad they didnt go with a big name actor which would have been the easy option. Just wanted another series now.

Well Il be betting against myself then as I will be increasing the AI if I knew how. I thought the series fantastic and will definitely be tuning in again next time to see how Sherlock Watson Mrs Hudson, Inspector Lestrade, and Graham are getting on.
