Did anyone else notice that Sherlock said, "If I was to shoot you" near the end of the episode, after making all that fuss about the correct use of was and were at the beginning?

I thought it was a brilliantly clever bit of casting. So unexpected.

Emm...that was me. However, I am neither a geek nor a Dr Who fan. Thankfully, I now don't need to write up how I thought Moriarty was going to be Tennant. Sherlock would have torn my theory into shreds in a jiffy and would be quick to tell me what an idiot I am.

Moriarty in this adaptation is uber creepy. I was hoping that Sherlock would shoot him.

I have thoroughly enjoyed all 3 episodes of 'Sherlock'. Hope we will have more episodes before too long.

You think the real Moriarty would have corrected him? They are both pedants

(Oooooh - there's a thought)

Have been wondering where Sherlock's heart lies?

Moriarty seemed to know.

I remember Scott in that Foyles War episode. He really stood out. He's about to star in Kevin Spacey's next play at the Old Vic. I really like the casting and couldnt be happier with Moffat not picking the same old faces. If I'd seen the god awful BBC luvie James Nesbitt as Moriarty I;d have been turned right off. I cant wait for series 2. Hurry up.

My dad suspected that the boyfriend would be important to the plot, but he didn't know Moriaty would be appearing. I knew he would be appearing, but I was Who-fan fooled by the makers!!!

When Peter Davison's voice was heard, I guessed that the boyfriend would be Moriaty, or at least a representative (wasn't sure if it was going to be a person or an organisation called 'Moriaty').

I didn't mind his portrayal. I did at first, he was all childish and Joker-like with a Graham Norton glee...until he said the line "that's what people do!". I thought "woah, this guy is dangerous".

I like the idea that he might yet be another puppet, given Mark Gattiss recent comments about 'Moriaty having yet to be introduced'. (Somewhere, I can't remember where! It was recent!) - but I would definitely not mind if this wasn't the case.

Check the deep end of the pool - Nesbitt could be there

When Moriarty was revealed, did anyone, even for a fleeting second think of The Mule from Asimov's Foundation series?

I loved it and I had no problems at all with the way that Moriarty was played. Though I did give an internal cheer when it was revealed to be Jim, as I suspected that he was Moriarty when the character was first introduced. There had to be a reason for him being in the story in the first place.

Loved the misdirection when just for a few seconds you thought it was Watson who was Moriarty. I think that Mark Gatiss played a blinder in the writing of this episode. It was just really good fun to watch.

Its already on Scott's Wikipedia. He is Moriarty and I'm very happy with the choice. Ive admired Benedict and Andrew's work for a long time so this is perfect for me. The casting choices have been superb. Even the actress playing Watson's girlfriend is someone I've enjoyed watching in various productions. Infact she was a baddie in the last series of Foyles War. Not the episode Scott was in. So its nice to see quality actors like this get their chance in the sun.

I know! Me too! that was a great second! Didn't see Jim coming at all. I thought it was just scientist girl trying to make Sherlock jealous.

I hope, if there is to be another series, that they get rid of that Sgt. Sally Donovan character. She is sooo annoying when she calls Sherlock, "freak!".

Sherlock is not a freak! He's very fanciable, actually.

She's probably been the very worst thing about this new series. Just an atrocious character who offers nothing and is badly acted.

Oo the people who didn't like the guy who played Moriarty, who would you have cast?

She's probably the worst actor and character in it. The whole 'freak' thing is really childish and just makes her character even more annoying.

I know! why has she not been disciplined for that? Hmm?

Absolutely loved this; best of the three episodes.

Looking forward very much to the next series. I didn't have a problem with the way Moriarty was played; yes, he was quite different to the Moriarty of The Final Problem, but then Holmes isn't very like the Holmes of the books either (Holmes in the books was usually a fairly compassionate character)

Critic in The Guardian loved it too and had special praise for Moriarty as well. Great to see Moriarty trending on Twitter worldwide.

I loved, loved, loved it. Hopefully they will put on a new series, the stories (IIRC) originally ended on a cliffhanger with Moriarty and Holmes fighting on the waterfall and that was supposed to be the end but because of the popularity of Holmes (and I believe he was broke, lol) Doyle wrote more stories, so hopefully the short series and cliffhanger ending is yet another tip of the cap by Moffatt to the originals.
We can always hope

Sort of. I thought "Criminal genius putting on a silly-ass act?", but didn't think of the Mule. Nice one!

Also if you are a fan of the books you have a lot of information about Moriarty and he was nothing like that portrayal.
Like I've said, I have more of a problem with the way he was portrayed rather than the way he was written.”

Have you never read/seen "The Wizard of Oz"?

If you are "a fan of the books" then you will naturally hate this modernised version as it bastardises them for a new audience...you can't have your Conan Doyle and eat Moffatt/Gattiss...it's just not digestable

As for tonight's episode: a spectacular 90 minutes of hokum the like of which I hope to see repeated at least 3 times more in 2011...

Sorry, but yes you can. You can be a fan of the original stories and still enjoy the modern adaptation. I'm living proof of that. I'm not especially bothered about the depiction of Moriarty. I would've preferred something different, but on the whole (apart from a woeful second episode) I thought the updating was brilliant.

It's like saying you can't be a fan of Mozart and enjoy 'Amadeus'. Of course you can.
