I think the title of the last ep of series 2 is a bit of a give away too!

Spoiler
Conan Doyle was forced by popular demand to bring Holmes back after his "death" at the Reichenbach Falls though

Cliffhanger () endings will likely become a trope of every Sherlock series. After the success of series 1's anyway. Bit like Spooks.

Yes I'm aware of the impending Read the complete and utter works years ago. Look- it's all been modernised so- have you not heard of bungee jumping ? Easy to return but I think that BC will be too busy.

O does the same for Othelllo.

The 1995 film version of Richard III places it in the 1930s and does a very good job of it.

Outland can also be said to reuse High Noon, Alien is a haunted house story in space.

The James Bonds books were set in the 60s/70s but that has long since been abandoned for the films.

And so on.

Retelling old stories in modern times isn't exactly new, nor is doing it well.

Why not just remake another Sherlock Holmes series set in the 1890s? Because it would be another Sherlock Holmes series set in the 1890s. Not only would all the stories be exactly the same as the Jeremy Brett series but the two would be constantly compared and that doesn't do a new show any favours at all.

The new films get around it by concentrating on an area of Holmes that despite getting a mention in several books tends to be ignored by TV productions (his physical prowess). It also vastly improved the treatment of Dr Watson.

This series on the other hand moves the times and reworks the tales (and also treats Watson better). Fair enough.”

Whilst its not a film the TV series House is based on Sherlock and Holmes with House & Wilson relationship. In fact I think that House's apartment number is a nod to 221B.

Excellent. I hate to think of people watching who aren't enoying such superb programming.

Is he going to be in The Hobbit as well as Martin Freeman?

They might just want to keep it fresh and only do one offs in the future like Mark did with the League of Gentlemen, keep the quality up

Funny, The ending of Sherlock Holmes 2 (the film with rdj) is the same ending as the season 2 series.

Do you folks think BBC will renew this for Series 3?

Its 221B Baker Street, in fact.

House/Holmes
Wilson/Watson
Both drug addicts
The patient in the pilot episode of House was called Adler
There are several visual shots of Sherlock Holmes books at various points during the series
The guy who shot House at the end of season 2 was credited as Moriarty

etc etc etc

He prefaced his statement with "I think." So obviously he's not sure. Reading comprehension: your friend.

Definitely. The BBC would bend over backwards for one. It's a huge hit - critically and with audiences.

The only thing that would ever stop it is if the actors couldn't do it. And both of the central pair seem very loyal - and while they're getting such plaudits for the parts, I can't see them stopping. If they found time to do S2 (when Freeman was doing The Hobbit; and Cumberbatch was doing Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy and War Horse, as well as Frankenstein at the theatre) then I think they'll manage it again. Being 3 episodes, filming will 'only' be 2 or 3 months I'd have thought - so it's not like Doctor Who or something where filming runs 9 months at a time and excludes you doing much else.

It might not happen for the same time next year, as most TV dramas do, but a bit of patience and I reckon there's a 90%+ chance of getting more.

Well it's been a long time since the first series, and he made War Horse in the middle, so I guess this gap won't be too different?

Yes, I can. I'm quite literate and capable of understanding what prefaces suggest without requiring further clarification when the prefaced statement in and of itself is a complete explanation of that's person's understanding even if it's not based on complete information. I can tell the difference between "I think" and "I am sure" as prefaces and which was present and used and which wasn't. Although I hope you feel you've adequately remonstrated me for pointing out your own lack of skills by attempting to suggest mine are inferior despite the previous demonstration indicating I did understand his statement clearly and did not require the further clarification you sought, it has to be said to do so is largely irrelevant: I showed my greater comprehension that you then questioned to suggest inferiority so your logic is quite bizarre to then try ask if I have a problem when I never indicated a lack of comprehension to begin with, unlike yourself.

Its not Sci-Fi/Fantasy.

Only reason for the Cult section is that it would otherwise take over this section with hundreds of shows/topics constantly being discussed.

Sherlock doesn't really fit it tbh.
Don't know many who'd come on here, think Sherlock - then click cult.

Allow me to make the introductions...

There...that should help to make your next post as comprehensible as you think it is.
