the BlackBerry is going on holiday...
i'm off on holiday and so what will be the best way to use my phone without racking up a massive bill?
i was thinking of just keeping the mobile network off and connecting to wifi when i can. if i do this, will i still be shocked by a big bill at the end of the month? also, does the skype app work on Virgin? Thanks

Keeping it on WiFi is a good idea.
Where are you going to? Can you not buy a local SIM to wherever you are going and if you really need an internet connection you can buy a bundle there? I went to Saudi a few months ago, took my unlocked iPhone and purchased a PAYG SIM with data bundle. Wasn't cheap but I think it was worth the use, allowed me to share photos on the go. Also meant I found out about the ash cloud before getting to the airport! |

Data roaming charges are usually a fortune but turning off mobile network or data roaming will stop these. If you connect solely via WiFi you will not be charged. If you don't trust your phone to cut the connection, you can always download a 3G/Data monitor just to pacify yourself that the phone isn't making any data connections.
