BT line faut
We have got a line in the house and everytime we try to ring out there is a dialing tone but when the number is called it says the number is incorrect.
Any ideas? The sky box is currently connected to this line and we've just taken out a new Sky HD subscription so it requires it to be connected to a line at all times for the first 12 months. The other (original) telephone point in the house works fine. |

Hi Trafford White
I would like to look into this for you and carry out some tests on your line to see what may be affecting your services. If you look in my profile you will find my contact details, if you could send your BT account details, forum username and a link to this post I will gladly look into this for you. Regards David |

, I've just remembered in the last couple of days we've moved over to Sky for our line rental / calls. However the fault persists, and we have had problems for the past 6-9 months.
BTW,unless you have multi-room or use Interactive Services you don't need to keep the Sky box connected. (Sky do not police it.) |

That happens when they disconnect your telephone line, for example when you request disconnection because you are moving to Virgin Media Cable phone service and not taking your number with you.
The line still remains active with the same phone number, but outgoing and incomming calls are barred and all you will hear when you try to make a call is the number you have dialled is not recognised. You will hear the standard dial tone and can only call these numbers: 112,999 and 17070 You will not be able to call 150 or freephone numbers. So if you have recently moved to Sky, it looks like your line hasn't been set up correctly, BT are refusing to route calls because they recognise Sky as your provider. So ring Sky, before your incomming calls get barred as well. |

Try prefixing any number dialled with 1280, this will bring the call back to BT from any other provider.
If that works OK contact sky |

Thanks for all the responses.
On further investigation I have discovered that the line is now completely dead. The socket in question is a dual faceplate. One line was a business line that was disconnected about a year ago (possibly leading to the initial fault as reported in my first post) the other line is the domestic line that has recently been transfered over. I've removed the faceplate but there is no test socket behind as is the case with standard faceplates. I've called Sky and they seem to think there may be a dodgy connection somewhere but they don't send out engineers. |
