Dropped IPhone in bucket of hot water!!!
Only just bought it and after years of no accidents with mobile phones, I couldn't believe it. Anyway I fished it out pretty darn quick and all seems to be ok. That was yesterday and had no sound for about 12hours and now all seems to be working perfectly
Have I got lucky or will I have problems in the future? |

Have I got lucky or will I have problems in the future? did you take out insurance for the handset? (If i was spending so much money on a phone... I'd definately get some insurance for it.... but then again I wouldnt spend so much on a phone in the first place )

I wouldn't use it. If it's an iPhone 4 - it might be an idea to undo the two screws and slide the back off. Leave it for a week to dry out. If it dies, perhaps you can claim on insurance?

You would probably tell if it wasn't going to work by now BUT bear in mind you might have exposed some of the water sensors, all the internal ones need to stain as well though. That might prejudice any warranty claim if they all are.

the phone was an upgrade on my monthly contract so didn't pay masses and they have a returns policy within the first 30days. But as it is working ok thought I was lucky but now what you guys are saying is that it could go soon. Surely water damage would be immediate?

I'd say it would be immediate... there isnt a logical reason why water would corrode a circuit board, it would short it, and you'd notice but that won't happen once it's dried out.

any damage is generally from people trying to use it over and over while its wet...electricity+wet is bad.
we'll see if theres any permanent damage. waters not as bad as other drinks and liquids which have corrosive components. but next time...let it dry bone dry ..helping with desicant/dry air before you try turning it on again. |

I had k750i that stopped working after storm In Ibiza, was using it as a flash light to avoid massive puddles. I left it for couple days, took it all apart as much as pos even stuck it in oven for 10 mins. It worked! Went from completely DEd to alive. I'd imagine though if I'd dropped it in water it would be unfixable yhough if u yanked it out as soon as it fell it it might be ok
