No - as a writer, SM is long enough the tooth to know exactly what he is doing and how much extra work he can take on over and above his executive role/lead writer role on DW just as RTD did - if necessary, he'll burn the midnight oil to write something he feels he wants to, needs or or just plain enjoys doing.
Does Matt Smith's performance as The Doctor suffer from him portraying Christopher Isherwood? Or should he be locked in a room and forced to remain The Doctor even when he isn't filming the show?
And also - I have many friends who work in one job and have a second job that they do, including volunteering and charity work...does this mean they aren't able to commit completely to both? No - because they know what they are doing, how to structure their time and ultimately know their own limitations.
