BT, New Connection Fee
I am moving into a new place, and like my old place there seems to be a £127 fee to connect the BT line up.
Are there any offers out there or any way to get this any cheaper? I also DO NOT want BT Internet as my ISP. |

New line
Certainly,
TalkTalk can install BT lines for around £60 Virgin Media can install there own lines when you take Broadband for as little as £25. Mad-As-A-Fish (A company owned by BT) can install lines for £100. Contact the above companies or visit the websites for the latest offers as sometimes they lower the prices even further, just depends on what you order as well. Under no circumstances do you go through BT when you choose one of the above companies to order a line as they will charge you the £127 fee plus lock you into a contract and make you pay BT line rental for that period, however you can still choose a calls and broadband provider but some companies prefer it if you pay there line rental directly to them such as TalkTalk. |

The reason other companies charge less is that they absorb more of the cost for you. They are still charged the same as BT to install the line by Openreach (part of BT, of course... so it all ends up in the same bank account eventually anyway).
I think there should be a level system where you pay less if less is required and the full amount if a new line is physically installed. We recently paid £125 to get a line reconnected. Everything was set up... the line was there, the cabled were there etc... so it's likely it just needed plugging back in at the exchange. Now, we would have got charged the same if everything needed doing. We got charged the same when someone was around our old flat for nearly 2 hours installing a new line! |

Its not a new build like my last place (going from renting apartment to house). Just hope i have a dial tone at my new place, as that will save a bit of cash!
Thanks for the replys. |

I read on MSE that some people who had a dialtone were still charged the £125 by BT/Openreach.
Normally of course if there is a dialtone it should be connected for free. |

Normally of course if there is a dialtone it should be connected for free. 2.It will cost £137 if you decide to pay in installments 3. A line with a dial tone should not require a reconnection fee, you will be charged £30 for reconnection if you was previously disconnected for non-payment. 4. The wholesale cost of installing a line is between £74.99 and £99 however it depends on how much work has to be done, if pavements and driveways need digging up then phone companies are looking at higher costs. The charge is at the discretion of the phone company you choose and the amount they charge is also up to them If you currently have a BT line and need a second line, the £125.99 or £137.99 fee still applies. Those in the Channel Islands: The fee by Cable and Wireless Guernsey and Jersey Telecom is £99 per line. The same rules apply to these phone companies as BT. |
