A BBC News app for the iPhone and iPad will be available in the UK from late afternoon on 23 July, the BBC has announced.

Good news. It means video from the BBC website should be available for the first time to iPhone users.

I can already watch bbc videos on my iPhone

No sign of it yet on the app store. I wonder has it actually been approved or did they just submit to apple with today as the release date which means we might not actually see it for a while.

I mean videos on the News website, which use Flash.

Of course, iPlayer videos are watchable.

no, through the app store, it's quite a way down though.

Got it, search "BBC News" and it should be within the first 25 apps listed (on iPhone app store) the developer name is just "BBC"

Yes, like I said. It was only submitted 20th, so it's definitely not the bbc worldwide thing. Live streaming only works on wifi though.

I am most looking forward to bbc sport app as it would finally allow people to use the iphone to watch live bbc video stream (i guess via only wifi at first)

Just got it from the app store and I'm impressed!

Being a bit of a news junkie I have quite a few news apps but the BBC website has always been my fav.

So this is a very welcome free addition and will look forward to the sports app.

Not long downloaded it, I'm well impressed actually. Much better than using the BBC News mobile site.

think i prefer the mobile site.

Much cleaner and more efficient. All those pics that load when the app starts up will soon eat into any data allowance.

And it looks rubbish on an iPhone 4.

Hardly, they're only a few kB each. I have unlimited net anyway.

You can already do that using the tvcatchup iphone site as well as a lot of the other free to air channels (just in case you didn't already know).

I also get that.

I'm using my Wi-Fi (through the Virgin Media Cable Broadband).

I never have problems with accessing location restricted sites on the computer.

EDIT: Opening the App again seemed to fix it.

Sometimes, yes. But the main BBC works, on the same damn IP address. Seems their geolocation is broken.
