Can phones4u be trusted?
Ok I got a desire of Phones 4 U, It wiped the memory card, I bought another card and it did the same, I contacted phones4u who said the phone is faulty and they would replace, I said I just wanted to return it and forget about the contract. They said they would replace the handset and send me £70 as a good will gesture after 28 days if I kept the contract on, So I suppose that wouldn't be to bad, but what if they never sent the cheque and at that stage i'd already be in my contract as the 7 day cooling period would be up. What should I do?

Don't take the money, you don't want to get stuck with a phone that's no good.

Oh well if they're going to replace the phone and your happy with the contract then go for it, £70 for nothing isn't to be sniffed at.

Oh no they will replace the phone, and give me £70 if I keep the contract. Its just the £70 will arrive 28 days later by which point the contract would be started, thats if it arrives at all.
If this is written down then clearly Phones4U are big enough not to promise money they can't/won't pay. If it's just over the phone there may be scope for it to be forgotten about/no record of it etc in 28 days |

Is this a verbal agreement or do you have something in writing - email at least?

Whys that then?
Not saying that the Desire is a cheap phone, it's not. If the iPhone 4 didn't exist, I'd probably have gone for one of those myself. I was almost tempted. The problem you mention with the memory card is a common fault with that phone I'm pretty sure. I've read about a few similar faults on this forum about it. The other thing what put me off the phone was knowing that you are limited to installing the apps onto the phone rather than to the memory card. If I'm not mistaken, the phone has 512MB storage space. That wouldn't be enough storage for me. I had 5GB of apps on my old iPhone 3G and nearly 1.5GB of apps on the iPhone 4 now. I'd take the phone back while you still can as you are well within your right to do so. |

All of their current phones are getting Android 2.2.
Quite an advantage considering above seems more to do with Android than the discounter Phones 4 U. |
