HTC Desire question.
Hello, i have had a HTC desire now for about 2 months, i love it, but up until now i have had a vodafone 30 day sim in the phone.
Vodafone have excellent coverage but a bit dear for my pockets, so i have popped a t-mobile sim in where i get 6 months internet for free. But my problem is this, it constantly goes to GPRS, rather than UMTS, i know we have UMTS where i live because my partner is with t-mobile and owns the pulse, that phone has a full UMTS signal whereas my desire has 2-3 bars GPRS then jumps to 2 bar HSDPA, is this something to do with my phone? Why does it miss out UMTS? Have i just not noticed this issue because the phone has been on vodafone and t-mobile is on a different frequency? My model is the A8181 and in the menu it has GSM/WCDMA auto selected, when i select WCDMA only i get a cross on the signal bar, when i select GSM only i get GPRS. I thought WCDMA included UMTS so the phone should definately support it????????? By the way i had HSDPA on vodafone with no problems so i know the phone is capable of that, and it rarely dropped from that to GPRS. And im in a very good 3g coverage area on t-mobiles streetchecker. Any help with this would be appreciated. |

Mine did the same thing on Vodafone, it would switch to GPRS during no activity. But jumped to H when I clicked a link or downloaded something.
If that's what is happening then your getting full speed, I think its just the way some networks or/and phones work. |
