I'm just asking on behalf of a mate, what is the cheapest Android phone out there at the moment? Anything that you can recommend? I believe that some are on par with the iPhone 2G and 3G models?

I've heard about some like the T-Mobile Pulse but my mate is on Orange. I would be grateful if you could point me in the right direction with the Android handsets, having never owned one myself.

Thanks.

Cheapest are the HTC Wildfire and Sony Ericsson X10 Mini - both selling very well at the moment and available on £20/month tariffs with data. If he doesn't mind claiming cashback he can get them both down to around the £9/month level. There's also a Pro version of the X10 Mini with a neat slide out qwerty keyboard for not much more.

Depending on how much your mate wants to spend the Desire might be worth a look - it's 25/month ~ £18 with cashback but is much better and great value at the moment.

Oh sorry, I didn't mention and really should have done. His contract is on Orange but is a rolling contract but he doesn't want to leave them for some reason, although I've told him he could take his number elsewhere and get a better deal with another network. His signal in his house isn't too good either but he uses the number for his business. I think he is looking to buy the handset on Pay As You Go as I know with the work that he does, the chances of the phone being kept in good condition is not too great so that's another reason for him not wanting to spend a lot. I know he was looking at some phone about the £60 price range but for maybe £30 or so more, he could have a much better phone that offers a similar experience to the iPhone?
