I'm just rewatching OTR today, and I was thinking about the roles the girls have gotten since then, and if they're reflected in their performances.

Obviously Jenny did a song from We Will Rock You, and you can see her doing 'I Want It All' from doing 'So What' and 'No-one But You' in 'Songbird'.

Steph in Smokey Joe's Cafe you can see in 'It's Oh So Quiet'

Lauren's the surprise for me. The show repeatedly gave her mature songs like 'The Man That got Away' and 'Being Alive'. She wasn't allowed to show an innocent side that the producers of Grease think she can show.

I think Lauren can act innocent. Saw Siobhan do it very well today. Watching Siobhan give a massive vocal performance its clear that Sandy works far better with one. Siobhan just grabs your attention and stands out with it. Lauren can do that. I don't think its coincidence that two of the strongest singers from their series have got that role. You could argue its essential as otherwise the boys and Rizzo have the big songs and there's so little story in Grease that you need to grab the audience (about 60% full today) with the vocal.

I had a Mama Mia moment for Jenny watching them at Westendlive on youtube. I could see her doing I Have a Dream as well as WWRY after Songbird ........http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLemVufwu_s and they did send her to see Mama Mia..........

Sophie I think is one to watch. I thought it was significant that both his Lordship and Bill Kenwright decamped to Wales to announce she was alternate and given ALW's habit of writing big songs for young sopranos I can see her singing them for him. You wonder what songs are going into Wizard and what might go in if he had a soprano as Dorothy to play with.

I think Lauren can do it, but she was never allowed to on OTR.


She reminds me of the Sophie I saw when I went to watch Mamma Mia.


If he writes songs for a soprano could Danielle handle them? I know she wasn't vocally strong but I was sure where her weaknesses were.

Danielle is a far better actress and dancer than Sophie, but in terms of the vocal, and the power with which it is delivered, Sophie is way superior to Danielle. Danielle has a beautiful voice, very tuneful and pure, but not too powerful. If ALW writes soprano songs, she might find it difficult to reach and hold the notes (like the last note of her Popular duet with Lauren).

I think that the Lord will make sure Danielle gets to do a lot of vocal work during the next few months, so that she can become stronger. After all, she IS only 18 years old. After that, she will be superb.
Sophie will have to work on her acting and dancing.
I envy all of you who live in the UK. I would love to come and see both girls play the role (as well as Lauren, Steph and the others, in their shows), but sadly I can't, at least right now

Steph - Dressed as a nun. Means that she will either go into Sister Act, or will replace Connie in the Sound Of Music, and give ALW*the 'different' Maria he wanted.

Stephanie - Dressed as Elphaba. She will go into Wicked, and will play Elphaba. She had quite a strong voice. Maybe in a few years. Definitely one to look out for

Sophie - Someone from Mamma Mia. She will play Sophie in Mamma Mia for a little while, and then be taken out by ALW to play a role in his latest production (a la Niamh). Or maybe that role is Dorothy, in TWOO.
She still has to go into Mamma Mia though, or any other show

Jessica - Dressed as the Lion. Very interesting. She will most probably not get to play the lion. However, I heard ALW is planning to revive Cats. I think this proves that she will definitely get a part in it, as one of the little cats. I would love to hear her sing 'Cat Of The Railway Train'
Either that, or she will play Sarabi / Nala in the Lion King. To be honest, I would love to see her play Timon / Pumba / Zazu / One of the Hyenas, or all of them together. She'd be awesome.

You've got a point with alot of those. Sophie would be perfect as Sophie in Mamma Mia. Not sure about Stephanie as Elphaba, your talking about ten years before she's old enough though.

Jess in Cats would be good, although I'm a musical snob so I'd prefer she wasn't in an ALW musical. She's perfect for Cabaret now, and in a few years she'll be ready for Chicago.

Just noticed this. The girls cast in something outside The Wizard of Oz already were the three who has to sing a Sondheim song.

I read on whatsonstage forums that Steph has been asked to audition to play the lead role in Sister Act the Tour.

Looks like its gonna be the Lion King for Jessica next!!!
