With start up costs, premises, a low wage economy and an uncertain future for not only some of the industry in the area, as well as the doubts about future of RNB Chivenor, I can't help but wonder whether the same sort of entrepreneurial optimism that led to and sustained Lantern FM in its early days is still out there waiting to be tapped.
I do wish all the interested parties well, and there's no deliberate attempt to rain on your parade, it's just that I really do doubt whether another commercial station is viable in the area, especially given the amount of advertising that. for example Exeter FM is managing to draw in from a somewhat more prosperous area 'down south'”
You're right it will be a tough market to crack. Having worked at Lantern FM for 13 years, 8 of those as a sales exec and at Orchard FM for 2 I know that Lantern/Heart North Devon was in fact a profitable site. My wife worked as sales office coordinator for 10 yrs and was one of those who was made redundant, without chance to apply for another role.
Each month Heart North Devon writes about £50k of local revenue, the majority of which comes from Barnstaple. That town carries the weight of burden of advertising in order for the whole of North Devon to have been covered
Having been to an event to day as Network North Devon, if I could capture and bottle the enthusiasm from the crowds and give it to OFCOM I would.
Its a long long road, but I and thse who work wanting to work with me and prepared to travel
Too many people to knock us back - no one can complain we didnt try. Far too many people are prepared too sit on the behinds and say it will never work
I know Doctor Dave you mean well and its taken that way. I often refer to tjhe fact tha in Exeter , the listeners do have a choice, Heart Devon, Exeter FM and Phonic
We have no choice in North Devon - in fact Heart Devon have the commercial radio monopoly here. But I thought OFCOM didnt like monopolies.
Can some explain the guidelines please.....
