Is this Heart....VARIETY: The quality or state of being different or diverse; the absence of uniformity or monotony:

The slogan, though, is More Music Variety, so the obvious question is "more music variety than what?"

If you're defining variety just by listing popular sub-genres of mainstream chart music, all but the most niche of internet radio stations play at least that much 'variety' of genres.

Which radio stations routinely play less music variety than Heart?

The Breeze, Key 103, Rock FM, Metro, Free Radio and Pirate FM are just a few examples within the various Heart TSA's. None of these offer the variety that Heart has. Variety is 'a little bit of everything' and that's what you get with "More Music Variety".

A little bit of everything? Seriously are you taking the piss? Radio 2, Wave 105, Jack FM... All have more variety. Even the Breeze which you mention does. The only station that really does play just about most genres is Radio 2. Yet Heart seem to be suggesting that they play 'more' music variety than anyone else when it is obvious they don't.

It always reminds me of the old mix means variety
Tag line the GWR stations used to use
Except that in their case though they had many detractors the claim was TRUE.
Certainly At least when my friend Andy Henley was doing his overnights !!!

A couple of random hours on the Breeze this afternoon (as an example) saw Bob Marley (reggae), Chic (disco), Queen (rock) , Isley Brothers (soul), Eurythmics (pop) , Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers (country) , Michael Buble (easy listening). Certainly Free and Pirate play just as many genres

How is that less 'variety' than Heart??

Not heard any of The Breeze stations but sound very much like one of my locals The Revolution until recently owned by Steve Penk
AND they play the whole tracks in their entirety !

Don't get me wrong - I appreciate that Heart know their market and what their listeners want. But what their listeners seem to want is familiarity more than variety. I don't understand why they market themselves on the one criteria which their competitors either match or better than them on.

"The songs you love" seems a better brand fit to what they do than "more music variety".

Indeed, although "Perfect cure for insomnia" is just as apt as far as I'm concerned.

Y'know I've said it before but the "more music variety" strapline is so regularly misunderstood by listeners it can't be that the masses are just thick and don't get that it means variety in genre of music than actual tracks but that it's an indication that it's an ill-considered strapline that isn't immediately clear to most people and yet still they persist with it.

Does anyone know why Heart North Wales is the only one that doesn't get a frequency on its logo?

•Wrexham - 88.0
•Llandudno 105.7
•Welshpool 102.8
•Newtown 106.0
•Deeside 106.9
•Aberystwyth 107.7
•Bangor 107.2
•Prestatyn 107.3

Sorry but is Party Rock Anthem - LMFAO really a Club Classic, it was played in the the Club Classics part (7-8) of Roberto's show this evening at 19:32. It was produced in 2011, hardly a Club Classic. It's the sort of song you'd hear on Capital and not Heart anyway.

The more recent tracks from Katy Perry, Pink, LMFAO, Daft Punk etc. will help to bump up the percentage of (re)current tracks played each day. Some of the Heart stations used to be chart music stations and still have to play a certain amount of music from the last 2 years or so (mainly done during local breakfast/drive).

There was someone on the Heart Yorkshire page saying that Yorkshire was the first area to get Real Radio until someone turned round and said that it was North Wales. It really does make you wonder if most Heart listeners are millitant too.
