How do the local Heart radio stations opt in to the network when the local shows have finished is it done from London or is it done from the local studio, I also want to know how the local heart radio stations sometimes get heart London for a few seconds.?

Wrong. The network shows start on a clock start. The local sites opt their station into the network after they've fired their last ad break of the hour.

Okay first I hate Heart,
I hear it, as the management at work have it through the tannoy (think the office gals like it). The office empties at 5pm and the warehouse is left with this tripe.
But not the music, all getting bored with Who's on flippin' Heart!

Who's On Heart finishes at 4. Why don't you just ask your management to change the tannoy to a different station?

Sadly not much choice in a 24 hr operation.
Us oldies hated Radio 1 (but at least they had cricket scores on the news), and due to the radio being useless was getting static interference.
The young ones would see Radio 2 as boring, too much talk.

Sadly despite asking they won't change the radio to a DAB one. (But some of us would be happy if they say each month went from Radio 1, 2, Smooth, Absolute, heck even a month of Heart).

The cynics think Hearts is just put on by managers as a torture device...

You describe yourself as an "oldie", you like cricket and work in a warehouse so, (and I hope I'm not stereotyping too much here) you're unlikely to be in Heart's target audience (25-44 year old females).

I suggest you club together and buy a DAB radio (the cheapest are around £25) or a CD player for the sake of your sanity!

Great idea. One MAJOR problem. It means having to listen to Heart and I'm too busy sticking needles in my eyeballs which is much more enjoyable. So, for that reason, I'm oot (said with a Scottish accent )
I'll stick to Absolute radio who play The Smiths, The Cult, Oasis etc. Great station (apart from the adverts of course). Have finally given up on radio 1 after 45+ yrs of listening. Thank f*ck for DAB.

I should have included Boy Meets Girl,Debarge,Bill Medley's Time Of My Life and Jermaine Stewart's We Don't Have To. Make that List E.

Incidentally I am not saying any of those are bad records. They're not. I just don't see why they get played so often,but great records from the eighties like ABC,Nik Kershaw,Howard Jones and The Thompson Twins never get played at all.(I am not counting the Sunday night eighties show.) Eurythmics,well,it's Sweet Dreams Are Made of This,never Who's That Girl,Here Comes The Rain Again,or Would I Lie To You. Why not? Does Heart think the listeners enjoy hearing the same records all the time? Do they think they'll break out in a cold sweat and change station if a record they don't normally hear comes on? Maybe they do think that.

I would welcome anyone from Heart to post here and explain their playlist policy,particularly with regard to their eighties songs that get played,and why it is such a limited selection. The Eighties was a great decade for music. We should hear more of it. Not just Boy Meets Girl and Debarge.

The misguided bunch that run it think Tracy or Sharon are going to tune out if they hear something unfamiliar, but if that was the case, and the target audience have a limited attention span, they would tune out during the ad breaks!

The one thing other than the repeated songs when i HAVE ACTUALLY LISTENED that really winds ME up is when they want you to text in and tell them what you're up to

That is not unique to Heart,many radio stations do this. it has two functions:

1) It fills airtime.

2) It gives the idea that there is some sort of connection between the DJ and the audience,that you have to text in,tell them what you're doing,as if anybody else is interested. Listen,when I'm listening to Heart,I'm packing shelves in a supermarket. So when the DJ says,"Text in,tell me what you're doing",have I ever felt the need to text in and say, "I'm packing in the biscuit aisle"? No,I haven't,because I don't see the point. But some people like to do it,and hear their name read out on the radio. Perhaps it makes them feel better,I don't know.

Maybe one day when the DJ says,"Text in and tell me what you're doing right now",I'll text in and say,"Right now I'm wondering why you play the same records all the time."

But I don't think they'd read that one out.
