Which will happen first?

A) Who's on Heart gets won.
B) John Legend's All Of Me stops getting played four or five times every day.

Vote now...

I'm saying who's on Heart will be won first it can take a couple of years sometimes before heart stops playing certain tracks numerous times daily i remember it was the case with Gotye somebody that I used to know

Thank you for answering my question, and predicting the exact date.

I don't know why you picked that date. Maybe you picked it completely at random.

But that will be my fiftieth birthday. You could not possibly have known that. What a curious coincidence.

Anyone else want to have a go? Which will end first? Who's on Heart.or All Of Me?

Voting is still open...

It just feels like it's been going on for ever. Started in January didn't it?

The person who names the last who's on Heart should also host a show for a week playing what they like.

January 6th I think it started, I'm guessing they are not going to be giving any clues this year unlike previous years

It's fair enough. The others managed to get a name without clues so the current one shouldn't. They are getting the top prize for answering as many correct names as the other two successful callers.

Yes,the person who wins Who's On Heart will get a whole show to themselves to play whatever music they like!

As long as it's:

Bruno Mars,
John Legend
Sam Smith
Olly Murs
Pink
Debarge
Ellie Goulding
Natalie Imbruglia (obviously only Torn would be allowed)
The Police (however only Every Breath You Take would be allowed)
Madonna (only singles pre 1991 would be allowed)
Human League (although only Don't You Want Me would be allowed),
and so on...

I would love to be on the listener panel and also suggest lots of tracks to possibly put forward.

So many more classic tracks that could fit in well on Heart.

Much prefer Lucy Ellis on the wind down to Jenny Francis. Has Tony Shepherd left Sussex and Surrey Heart drivetime, as I see after 2 weeks of Angela Jay presenting the show next week it is Lynsey Bartlett? Has he perhaps moved to another Heart station or in the process of?

I was not aware there was such a thing as a listener panel, that could put forward suggestions for tracks to be played.

I just thought that seeing as Heart plays more or less the same records every night, they had just decided that these are the songs that our listeners like,so we'll just keep playing them, again and again and again.

It reminds me somewhat of The Jam's famous single Going Underground.

The first verse says,"The public gets what the public wants."

But in the second verse, this subtly changes to "The public wants what the public gets."

I think that might be the Heart view of their listeners, and neatly describes their playlist policy.

Interestingly, for such a famous and important single in the history of popular music, and one that went straight in at No1,which was extremely rare at the time (1980),the Wikipedia article on Going Underground is remarkably brief.

Heart north east has gone off air on DAB in the teesside area, must be a big problem somewhere, the FM signal on 100.7 is fine

<snip>”

Surely that lyric was more the case in the 70s and 80s before stations tested music - and there was little listener input anywhere in the process outside of request shows.

Yes there is a listener panel as those in the know on here will tell you, they have to test the tracks. Obviously I doubt that they are able to request tracks to put forward that was just something I would like to do.

Well,if I was on the listener panel, this is how it would go:

Me: So why do you play the same records every night?

Researcher: We don't play the same records every night.

Me: Yes you do,have you ever listened to Heart all night? Sam Smith four times,Bruno Mars three times,John Legend twice,Olly Murs,Tracy Chapman,Fast Car,Don't You Want Me,Starship,Debarge. If aliens were listening in to earth and the only station they could hear was Heart, they would think there were only about a hundred records in existence.

Researcher: Our listeners are very happy with our playlist policy.

Me: Well I'm a listener,and I'm not happy.

Researcher: You are not in the station's target demographic.

Me: Brilliant. (Pause.) So who's the last answer on Who's On Heart?

Researcher: You expect me to know that? (Pause.) Alright, you didn't hear this from me,but apparently it's (NAME DELETED).

Me: Seriously? I'd never have thought that.

Researcher: Don't tell anybody. And don't phone up either.

Me: I promise...

Funny post very true.
I can understand the repeated plays of current and recent tunes all radio stations do it but not older tunes why should they be so restricted?

Every time I dip in to have a look on here, all I see is repeated posts about repeated music.

It's all a bit meta.
It is what it is. That's the format.

George Ezra, Take That, GRL... I think it's sounding pretty fresh at the moment.

*prepares to be stoned for high treason*

It is what it is,you are right.

The question is,why is it what it is?

Why do people want to listen to the same records all the time?
Why is the playlist so limited?
Why are even the oldies that get played always the same ones? I won't bother to list them again,I've done it already. And anyone who listens to Heart regularly knows what they are.

I posted these questions over two months ago and I still haven't really had any answers, apart from something along the lines of, "If you don't like it,listen to something else."

Which isn't really an answer.
