Mind you if Club Classics was to play some of the Madchester sounds like James!!
I could be wrong - I'm not 100% sure - but didn't I hear Happy Monday's "Step On" once on Club Classics about six months ago?

Mind you if they did an Absolute 80's/90's show Mon-Thurs with a wider selection of music than the 80's/90's they currently play, might make Friday night more of an event, hearing stuff that is not played to death.

Why would they have an 80's/90's show that used a rival network's branding?

Perhaps they could also introduce the "Real Weekend on Heart", or "Radio 2 Breakfast on Heart".

Why the hell should they?

Heart does so well because the listener knows what she is going to get when she switches on.

Why change format after 7pm?

Not my idea, go back to post 324. Was just expanding on a previous idea.

Was answering a previous post no. 324.
The current evening show did not enthral the poster who really only listens on a Friday for club classics.
It is okay Ashley Tabor saying that Heart in his mind is a rival to Radio 2, but what does Heart do to prove such a suggestion?
In the evenings and night what can the playlist not expand. I think a lot of women of the 35 age bracket are not listening to Heart for the 20 minutes if they are actually listening. More likely around 7pm to be watching Corrie, Emmerdale and Eastenders! Hey if Heart can stereotype. so can I!

Matt Wilkinson used to do a 1 hour part of his show every evening at 8pm, called Absolute 80s, that's why I mentioned it. You can call it what you like really. Back in the days of the old localised Heart stations, there used to be a program on friday nights on Heart West Midlands 100.7 called 'A Kick Up The 80s', which was presented by the late Tushah (forgive my spelling). I used to like that show. Even when they replaced it with Club Classics, they used to play a wider range of club classics than they do now.

Ah! Gotcha.

The word "absolute" would be a no-no in the current market though. Unless you're Absolute.

Heart London schedule currently showing Simon Dale on from 7pm;
http://www.heart.co.uk/london/shows/schedule/

And from the Simon Dale facebook page, he has announced that he is back tonight;
http://www.facebook.com/SimonDaleOnHeart

Shame that means Matt Wilkinson won't be on in the evening any more.

Maybe that is what Matt is doing, getting a life and hearing a real variety of music.

Chris Brooks was actually on Heart Sussex & Surrey breakfast this morning (and for the rest of the week). I was listening this morning, and thought that it was a really good show, with a good balance of talk and music, and rather entertaining as well.

A lot better than having Tom, Lynsey and Jack, who still irritate me slightly; I still think that 3 presenters on the breakfast show is a bit excessive.

Slightly inspired by the Music rotation thread.
Heart seems to play a lot of 80's music. How long for? I know the station evolves, but imagine the Time Tunnel in five years, playing hits from 2010, which Heart never actually played, because it was so full of 80's music.Half of me is being ironic, but the retro years could be even more predictable in five years time. (bit like the Heart bashing threads, before some one else says it)

I don't know if anybody has noticed, but they only seem to do certain years! I know 1986 and 1978 come around a lot.

100.7 Heart FM (pre-network) had two fantastic weekend shows which was a must liten:

1. The late, great Tushar (spelling forgiven) did "A Kick up the 80's" on Friday nights which had the staple "Girls just wanna have fun", and "Never gonna give you up" etc. He also used to throw in some of the more obscure 80's stuff like Spagna's call Me.

2. Paul Bryant (a very under-used and very talented presenter) did the fore-runner to Club Classics with "Dancing in the City". Again, this was a monster of a show and did CC and then some.

In both cases, the music variety was far wider than at present and massively popular with both listeners and management alike. Unfortunately, Mrs. Timesaver likes Heart in car (although she now has an iPod which gets plugged in) and the songs it plays time and time and time again, but ecven she's getting sick of it.

Heart should try throwing in a couple ofobsurities, just for the listeners' WOW factor....."WOW, I ain't heard THAT for years!".

Heart FM Music variety? They've played 3 George Michael (inc Wham) in the last two hours. The same songs/artists every hour of every day for the last 10 years. I swear I have more variation on my ipod than they have in their entire music library (i.e the one double CD from the 80's). i am turning off Heart FM for good.

Are you sure? I've just looked on the below link at what was played from 1pm until now and there was only Wham played at 14:09.

Don’t worry Rachel, you’ll probably find out that you’re either listening for too long or you’re not part of their target demographic anyway. It’s nothing to do with Heart, they know exactly what their audience wants and boy are they are giving it to them.

I'd like to ee the minutes of the last "locally" held listeners' meeting for Heart 100.7.

They yused to hold these meetings regularly to gauge listener reaction to new songs/favourite tracks/ and to get regular feedback on hoe Heart FM sounded like.

Do they still hold these locally, because if, ".....they know exactly what their audience wants and boy are they are giving it to them", then I hope that this is being researched outside of Laaaaahndon too.

i hate to think who their target audience is but my guess is it isn't me, obviously their management were 80's children!

No because I only looked at the times you had actually said in your first post - i.e. two hours before 15:16 (the post time).
