There are stations that play the songs, artists and genres that Heart play plus more and more songs within those genres and more songs from those artists I call that more music variety.

You got in there just before me. I only saw that after I'd sent off my previous post saying the same thing.

Best thing that could happen to Heart is someone putting BBC Radio 6 Music on its transmitter.

Hi great forum by the way, found this site a few month ago and being a bit radio obsessive this is just up my street.
I have the radio on all day at work in the warehouse and it's on my table so I'm in charge.
It's quite hard pleasing every bodies musical taste, and to be fair it is a digital radio, but heart does end up on a bit, has the variation isn't to bad, but has others have mentioned to many songs do get over played especially newer ones with only being a select few as well.

I do like hearts timeline, where you do get a few different tunes to normal, but even then after a while the same songs crop up, they seem to have maybe 10 songs from each year to pick from.

Jason donavons 80s show is the worst, I've mentioned before that it's just the daytime playlist with 1 or 2 slightly rarer tunes played, while real radios high school days, that was on prior to this was a great winding down Sunday show, loads of rare 8os hits, one hit wonders, mixed in with a nice a bit of cheese.

Heat radio gets the variation the best I would say, with the newer tunes played, and not just, Sam smith, George Ezra, e.t.c , but blended in nicely with some 80s and 90s tunes with some rarer ones thrown in as well, especially on reheat.

It's all about opinions though and everybody has so many music tastes, I like most types of music, so I can be pretty versatile with the radio dial.

Welcome to the thread Yorkstar.

I used to listen to High School Days on Real Radio when it was on a Friday night. Great show. Then they moved it to a Sunday night when I don't work,so I was less than pleased about that.

I can't comment on Jason Donovan's 80s show because I never listen to it,but High School Days used to play some real out there stuff, like King,Love and Pride, and one of my all time favourite 80s tunes,Duel by Propaganda.

Does that sort of stuff still get played? I wonder.

no it doesnt

that sort of thing is my kind of 80s music, especially propaganda (LOVE that band), even had a dvd with the dr mabuse video on.

I cant imagine JD would know most of the obscure 80s stuff as it was the late 80s when he came over from Australia

Whether it's annoying or not.
I'd argue that the ad has pretty much done it's job if you have that much recall on it.

Nope just plays the usual Michael Jackson smooth criminal, soft cell tainted love, starship we built this city, basically 3 hours of the the very well known, overplayed 80s hits.
Jason dosent even play one if his own tracks, not down to him but hearts music policy.
I'm sure he would love to play some kylie, Sonia, londonbeat, bros and others similar in the late eighties that he would be most associated with.

I

I still like to get my 80s fix on a Sunday night so tune in and out hopeing to all of sudden here some rare jems but never really seems to, although I did get a shock last week when a hair cut 100 track was played, and the week before one my favourites nik kershaw wouldn't be good was on, these 2 are never played on daytime heart or the timeline, so they can do it when they want to be it very rarely.
I have a bit of forgotten 80s on absolute radio, free 80s e.t.c just to mix things up a bit while chilling on the PC.

Most definitely, BBC Radio 1 plays more music variety than Heart, as also does BBC 6 Music, although I don't listen to much of the latter, due to the very metallic sound of DAB. I really like BBC Radio 1, and it has lots of music variety, from specialist heavy metal, to mainstream pop music that is currently in the charts, to specialist electronic dance music, all in different shows, yet there is quite a lot of the three music genres at daytime, but quite as specialist as in the specialist night-time shows.
Forget UK commercials, we have the excellent BBC! For good commercials, rely on Holland.

Certanly right with radio 1 and 2 no annoying adverts, I still like about half of the new music on radio 1 but not enough to stay tuned in has I after have the variation of older stuff mixed in.

Like a few others I left after Chris moyles went, great show had to listen everyday, the whole team jelled well, I only listen to an hour on a Friday on grimmys show at 9 for the mixtape at work, other than that a bit in the car while Chanel flicking.

At the end of the day, if you don't like Heart, retune.

I used to listen to Heart as my main music station but found it just too repetitive and now listen to Heat. Sure, it too plays certain songs from some artists but overall it's much more varied, even on it's regular playlist. And the Reheat show at 10am each morning has an wide selection; I even heard the Baywatch theme on there earlier this week!

Agreed heat is better and have it on quite a bit.
Main stations at work for me are heat, heart, tfm, tfm 2,absolute,absolute 80s, radio 2, kisstory, bbc tees and radio yorkshire, all providing variation throughout the day.

Trouble is with my commute the traffic reports are essential.

If you can suggest a station in Manchester aimed at me and my wife (33 and 30) that does traffic reports and a decent selection of music then we would be eternally grateful

No chance of BBC Radio 6 Music in that mix or not?

I haven't give bbc 6 to much of listen it seems to get good reviews, is it just new music or bit of both, I might give it an hours worth tomorrow for a bit of a trial.

Seems a bit pointless having an all 80s show if all they do is basically just play all the usual Heart 80s records that any regular Heart listener will probably have heard dozens of times already. But as I say I haven't listened to it. I might make the effort to catch a bit of it,just to see if it's as uninspiring as you are suggesting.

Nik Kershaw and Howard Jones, between them they've easily got at least half a dozen top class 80s tunes.

But you never hear them on the normal playlist. It'll just be Don't You Want Me or Sweet Dreams are Made of This. Again.

Yep the riddle, I won't let the sun go down on me, and Howards what is love, new song and quite a few more all were played on high school days.

its a terrible station these days

I nickname it aviccii fm because they play his songs over and over again

back in the late 80s/early 90s they could do no wrong, steve penk was a genius and worshipped round here, the rest of the station seemed to play the same songs over and over though. their only redeeming feature is the no repeat workday, which means they have an excuse to play things like rude by magic (oh joy, not heard that song anywhere near enough)

outside of this, its the same repetitive rubbish.

the guy on the breakfast show on key 103 has been on since the late 90s, his predecessor was the guy that replaced steve penk when he went to capital. and does seem to be the blueprint for every other breakfast show (bloke has banter with woman who is reasonably young and attractive and clearly more modern than him and constantly tries to drag him into the 21st century)

their failings should prove as a warning to other stations to change their ways
