Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Heart shouldn't play Kodaline - I think it actually is a good 'Heart' record - but I think it was the apparent inconsistency that Simon was wanting addressed.”

Yes it was one of the big question, thanks for that. I'm not always good at putting my point across ☺

Given the personal attack you made on a presenter last year and your subsequent tantrum when someone dared to challenge you I don't think you're in a place to be criticising other posters.

I have it on good authority that the only reason is that, with some of the stations they took over, there is a requirement still in force to play a certain percentage of chart / current output, and this is Hearts way of getting around this, so fulfilling the criteria.

Done through the back door, so to speak!

Hence my comment the other day about off-format songs being tested.

Just because a particular artist or song isn't played it doesn't mean it's been totally ignored or the HOM doesn't have a clue about music. Of course he does. But if research says 'Don Quixote' or 'Wide Boy' aren't popular or familiar enough stations won't play them.

Always remember "you will never get intro trouble for what you don't play".

That could be true although it would be possible to opt your bigger stations out and do something else at this time.

Nothing wrong with that way of doing it if what you say is true. I think it's worth noting that it's unlikely someone who posts in here would know that forva fact. Even those who work there are unlikely to know. Senior managment do not publish all of their decisions at any radio station and I bet Global are no different.

How exactly do you think you 'won' the multi brand ownership arguement?

Any body know why Heart always play Take That 'These Days'. I thought 'Let in the Sun' was the new one.

Broadcasting a chart show and promoting it all week is quite a open way to meet a chart requirement - not sure myself how that could be called back door.

When Global first rolled out Heart the ex-Chrysalis continued to carry a show with Emma B while the ex-GCappers kept Hit 40 UK.

It was only when Big Top 40 launched and it was open to all Emma stopped doing the Sunday show.

Very true, we won't know for a fact. I think we can guess that with the amount of stations that take Big Top 40, often on stations where it does clash (and I don't think it does so much for Heart), there must be a financial benefit for the stations.

Maybe wckartist could submit a FOI request to Global if he's that interested in the reason why?

They did play it for a while but I'm guessing it wasn't as popular/familiar so they continue to play these days

If you don't agree, then fair enough. I've no problem with that, it's what debate is about. Surely I don't need to explain everything in words of one syllable?
Borsant

Words of any syllable count will do. You made a big deal of the fact that Global owns a few brands then went all sulky and quiet when it was amusingly pointed out that it's a common business practice and employed by a company you presumably don't hate, Heinz.

I'm sure that is game set and match to you, but my simple brain would like it explained clearly.

I do enjoy a lot of the time tunnels and they have played many of the tracks and artists I've mentioned.
A great early 80s one on Tuesday morning. Wish we could hear some of these tracks at other times though.

Mpeople have come up a couple of times in the last weeks I'm always surprised they don't test better.

You picked two lesser known Nik Kershaw songs, both hits in 1985,after he had passed his peak of popularity. I would agree they probably aren't familiar enough. But in 1984 he had three masssive hits,Wouldn't It Be Good,I Won't Let the Sun Go Down On Me,and The Riddle. I would argue anybody who had their "high school days" in the 80s would recognise those songs. After all,on the Time Tunnel the presenters always urge the listeners to text in and say what they were doing back then, and what the records remind them of. So if it's a year in the early eighties that can only include listeners over about forty years old. Anybody else would be too young to remember,or not even born.

Even if they aren't considered suitable for the main playlist it surely wouldn't do any harm to give them an outing on a 1984 Time Tunnel. But the last time I heard a 1984 Time Tunnel.one of the records was Cyndi Lauper's Girls Just Want To Have Fun,as if that doesn't get enough airplay on Heart anyway.

I thought the Time Tunnel was a chance to hear a few records off the normal playlist for a change - but often, whatever year it is,it's pretty much the same records that get played. There are very few genuine surprises when I think,"What a great record,I've not heard that for ages."

"You will never get into trouble for what you don't play",well, fair enough. But it doesn't make for very interesting radio if programmers won't take a chance and just stick to tried and tested favourites all the time. I mean there's only so many times I want to listen to Don't You Want Me.

I shouldn't even be posting this,I'm supposed to have retired.

Completely missing, or more than likely, avoiding the point!

If this show is such a "big deal", then why do we not hear these songs during normal day to day programming.....??

I'm missing the point - it's because of the last sentence "Done through the back door, so to speak!". It's almost like the last sentence has no relevance to the main paragraph.

The phrase "done through the back door" to me indicates something that is hidden or at the least partly hidden. I don't think anything that is so openly scheduled and promoted as the Big Top 40 could be regarded as hidden.

Typo on the schedule page for Margherita Taylor he instead of she

Margherita keeps you company whilst you work or pick up the kids. Plus he celebrates some of the best music from one great year in the Time Tunnel.

So, I ask again......

If its a "prime show", why does the music NOT feature at any other time?

Massive swerve there asking another question

I'll answer your question anyway in a hope you'll not swerve again and answer mine. To be honest I don't know - I'm on record many times as saying I think they take the show for revenue. To go back to one of your previous posts it could be possible they are carrying the show for an easy way to meet the chart requirements on some stations on a Sunday.

Anyway I'll ask my question again - what is "through the back door" about a show that is so openly scheduled and promoted?

I'm aware its well promoted, my point is, as I have now made several times.....

If it was "such a winner" the music would be played during normal programming, and you know that is not the case!

All this nonsense about being frightened to play a song the target audience will not know, yet THREE hours worth on a Sunday.

I still maintain its just to "Get around" certain regulations.

All of these are valid points - some I agree with and I can see the reasoning behind those I don't agree with.

However none of which answer why you thought it was through the back door though especially as you are now "aware its well promoted".

1984 is probably the worst culprit so many good songs from this year my favourite 80s year by far but unfortuantely not many different ones picked for time tunnel, normally cyndi lauper girls just want to have fun, micheal Jackson pyt, queen radio gaga, sister sledge I'm so excited, and maybe together in electric dreams.

Not having a dig just intruiged which songs are picked to come on, van halen jump was on last weeks 84 actually not heard on heart normally.

If it is 84 tomorow could I maybe suggest a bit of Matthew wilder break my stride, forever young alphaville, strawberry switchblade,Howard jones what is love, and any nik kershaw tune and that will be great👍.

Would be incredible if you actually managed to guess the year, pre Time Tunnel Yorkstar.
That would indicate a very specific skill/weakness.

Well believe it or not this morning was the classic year 1984 😮. Although not the songs I mentioned it was the other 5 from the 10, was a bit of queen I want to break free, the other sister sledge one, Chaka Kahn I feel for you, and some other common ones I can't remember.

The lotto numbers will be 6 13 21 31 34 and 42👍.
