Around Manchester there's a few isn't there... The Revolution...Wish .... The Bee ... Not forgetting Chorley FM 'coming in your ears' and a batch of very little locals. Not serious rivals to Bauer and Global but probably unable to run research and therefore likely to be 'wide and chatty'

The Rev's signal gets out surprisingly well due to Oldham's location near the Pennines. It can certainly be heard loud and clear 30+ miles away, around Warrington/St Helens.

I don't know what their music policy is nowadays but the RAJAR doesn't look too good.

Indeed - ive heard the Rev in the Spring Gardens. It's had various incarnations but never troubled the stations we're discussing here in Oldham

Replaced by Zoe Hardman from Monday. The silent death of presenters on air continues.

Complete contrast to a station I listen to based in Canada (Now Radio Edmonton) and they gave the English presenter they had on there a massive send off last week and he even said he was moving to another city/station.

Smooth North West is owned by Communicorp, and operated by Global. But I get your point.

Just shows you what a joke heart is. Listeners get attached to the DJs on air, and should be respected and informed exactly what has happened.

I had to laugh this morning with the new competition "win before they sing" if you don't know you have to guess the name of the song before the artist starts singing.

The song was torn by Natalie Imbruglia and the caller got it wrong she obviously isn't a Heart listener as every knows that song has been a Heart regular for years 😄

But heart is about the music don't you know they don't care about the presenters.

A shame as Jenny really suited that show she was passionate about the music i liked her style.

I wonder what happened.

Which kind of backs up my statement that the station is a joke. There is more to a good quality radio satation than the music.

Its just short of 2 years since Jenny joined heart so I'm guessing her contract was up

This happens all the time.

Not everybody knows artist and song titles. You might THINK they do but the sad fact is even though they KNOW the song they can't always name it.

Barry White is another example. Everybody knows his music, right? Yet when asked to name 5 of his songs most people will struggle after 2 or 3.

For crying out loud. Any excuse to bash again, eh? I expect to see you posting about Kam Kelly leaving Radio Aire too then. After all "listeners get attached to the DJs on air, and should be respected and informed exactly what has happened". Here's that discussion.

Really? I assume different people listen to Smooth at night to the people who listen during the day

If Global wanted Zoe Hardman to replace Jenny Francis on the Late Show they could have moved Jenny to a new Late Show on Smooth.

The reason for this Jenny came from a R&B and Soul station in Choice (Before being rebranded Capital Xtra) where she hosted an overnight show. When Jenny moved to Heart to take over the late show from Simon Beale I noticed more Soul tracks were playlisted and you could tell she was passionate about Soul music and was knowledgeable about it.

Now Smooth play a large amount of Classic Soul tracks to meet their licence requirements in the North West and London (Ex Jazz FM stations). Jenny could present a relaxed / chilled out Late Show which would be better than Love Songs on automation.

The 10pm show hasn't been a love songs format for ages. When Jenny took over it became the wind down with soul rnb and similar type songs.

Does SmartProgrammer know what happened to Jenny ? ☺

I'm all for a discussion, but I can't stand this type of comment.
I've heard Zoe on Heart quite a bit over the last few months and I actually think she's really good. The bits I heard, she was natural, funny and a really nice voice. What she's done in the past is irrelevant.

In contrast, I didn't like Jenny's style on Heart. It sounded a little forced and the other half used to listen to Heart most evenings, both of us agreed that she didn't sound quite right, and she used to say the same things every night. Give the same shout outs. Even make the same mistakes. She's a great broadcaster, but don't think she worked so well for the station.

Hopefully she'll get back somewhere soon, but I'm looking forward to how the show's going to sound. And so is the missus.

Any excuse to defend again eh???

You obviously love heart. I bet you can't get enough of it. Well, if it suits your listening choice, then good for you.

But, here's the thing. There are going to be people who don't like it. So, rather than "crying out loud", why not just excvept the fact that there are people to genuniely like radio, and just maybe heart doesn't cut it for them.

Well, after all, it is more music variety. This is heart.

It's so lauahable, it's untrue.

Really?? I'm no Heart apologist and actually came on to make mischief about the appearance of Global Talent acts Lawson and Nathan Sykes on the Heart playlist several weeks upfront (familiarity, research etc doesn't apply to Global's own acts of course), but I'd be surprised if what you've claimed is right. Perhaps you could share which hour of which show and I'll take a look and see if you're right?
