Why, if people in Birmingham want to listen to Classic hits I am sure they can find Gold 1152??

Why have two stations playing the same music, in my view if people want to listen to current chart music then they tune into FM if they want to listen oldies then they listen on AM simple

Its one thing that annoys me with this Heart and Gold music policy so very similar as opposed to when it was under GWR control

The overnight presenters on Heart seem to have swapped. It appears that Gareth John now does 2am-6am Saturday and Sunday while Nicola Bonn now does 4am-6am weekday mornings.

"Playing the same music"? Hardly. The amount of crossover tracks are very minimal.

There's nothing wrong a few of these songs from time to time. Research shows that the average Heart listener doesn't want to be considered old and would like to stay on top of what's current. They want feel good songs to sing along to. Gold is too old for them.

Throwing in the odd 60's sing-along-song here and keeps it familar while at the same time keeping it current. Lite FM New York play Bruno Mars - So does that mean Z100 can't?

Cos the audio quality is so limited on AM, Gold sounds as if it's coming from the moon

I have noticed that now on Heart Sussex & Surrey Drivetime, the first song of the hour after the news is a current one, for example The Wanted, Cee Lo Green or Olly Murs.

Previously every hour has started with 'classic' old song. It seems as though the networked shows do still continue to kick off the hour with an old one.

You say minimal, but if the info at another website is correct, 8% of Heart music is played ob Gold, or about one in 12 songs. So if someone has Heart on at work, that' s every hour they are hearing one 'Gold' song on average.
But just looking at the the last ten songs played here on local Heart, and you an see why people may feel the crossover is more.

Can You Feel It The Jacksons 1980
Cooler Than Me Mike Posner
Hollywood Micheal Buble
Alenjandro Lady Ga Ga
Losing My Religion R.E.M.
Don't Stop Believin Journey 1981
Grenade Bruno Mars
Famous Scouting For Girls
Only Girl (In The World) Rihanna
You're The One That I Want John Travolta/Oliva Newton John 1978

So as a whole 1 in 12 is not a high crossover.
But with three songs all over 30 years old here, can you see why they called 'Gold' tracks, even if they are not all played on a station called Gold?

I don't think you can count that as a gold track - it only reached number 62 in 1981, but was number 6 in 2010 thanks to Glee - so I think you should be complaining that Gold are playing new tracks.

I agree that it is an odd one, but again it is a perception to the average listener. Not being a fan of Glee or X-Factor (who also picked it up), I heard the song and it had 1980's written over it, even though I did not know it.
Yes, as you point out it did not have much impact over here first time round, but we all know it is an oldie.

Just what Heart Locals need...more 'Oldies'. More oldies may make it distinct from Capital in those areas which have both Heart and Capital on FM. But for those areas which are Capital free, are Heart pushing younger listeners or those who want to hear new music to the BBC?

You have to remember Heart West Midlands is a Hot AC format as well as Heart London, its tricky to please both the Hot AC formats and the CHR format stations

The lot of you, stop thinking of songs as just 'old' or 'new'.
It's way more complicated than that.

That's the definition of Heart's "More Music Variety" proposition, right? They're songs that a particular demo are passionate about, irrespective of whether they're from the 60's or current.

But when has Heart ever been about new music? The target audience is of the age where they still want to feel "in touch" with contemporary music and not "past it", but they're certainly not on the bleeding edge of the latest trends.

Anyone who is passionate about new music would already be listening to Radio 1 or whatever. They'd hardly have been coming to these stations in their previous incarnations for their new music fix either.
