Will people ever give up the "oh they don't play X song" rubbish; if you want to hear your own choice build a spotify playlist!

Interesting to hear a slightly longer version of Fragma - Toca's Miracle on than I remember from the original single version. I thought the idea was to trim songs down not extend them?

So you "give up" making stupid statements. Did enjoy hearing Extreme "more than words" and Simply Red "stars" not heard them recently on Heart. |

Personally, I really don't like Heart at all. BUT I am happy to choose from Sam FM, Wave, Capital, Breeze, Express FM, Radio 1 or Radio 2. On DAB I can hear Absolute, Planet Rock, Magic, Radio X, Smooth, Mango, Flash and loads more! |

Have to say week before last week Heart actually started playing some different songs and I thought they have finally decided to expand the playlist but alas while sat at work last week George Ezra, Whitney Houston "I Wanna Dance", CeCe Peniston "Finally", Amy Grant "Big Yellow Taxi" and Olly Murs "Up" twice in one afternoon meant my joy of some different songs went short lived.
No doubt I will hear Taylor Swift "Shake It On" at least twice during my shift tomorrow ![]() While I've always liked the Enya song Orinoco Flow even I was getting fed up of hearing it nearly every hour!!There's been millions of records released over the years why can't they play what they like? |

I listen to Heart (and Smooth) a lot during the day and it is annoying that in this day and age they still have to stick to a playlist for some reason.

The result of this, though,is that you keep hearing the same records over and over again, and you hardly ever hear a record off the normal playlist, except on the Time Tunnel sometimes. It does not make for interesting radio, but Heart is not in the business of producing interesting radio,it exists to make a profit. If you're interested, the subject of Heart's repetitive playlist was covered in some detail on this thread last year. Start from about page 110. |

They don't have to stick to a playlist. They can play what they like. But they choose not to. They stick to big hits from the last year or so plus some tried and tested oldies that they know are popular with the listeners. Listener consensus limits radio playlists. This is known through extensive research and testing.

It just so happens the AC format, has a variety of genres included in it. From modern rock, to dance, pop and country. This is why the station brands it's output as 'More Music Variety' It isn't down to the collective amount of records in the active library. And why would such a station risk losing it's, already impressive, collective reach and share – by diluting the songs that have stood the test of time, with inferior tracks, that don't test well when researched. Because they won't stand up to the demands a AC/Hot AC stations format requires. So that's it. Apart from a polite request to use spaces after punctuation. It's not personal, it just annoys me. And most of these comments on here are based on annoyances, so I might as well throw it in. I think that's it. |

I think you'll find that they do, it's called a format.

Odd that I have managed nearly fifteen hundred posts on Digital Spy on various threads without anyone complaining about my lack of spaces after punctuation, yet with only thirty-three posts to your name in over three years, you have felt the need to. So you hardly post yourself but think it's OK to criticize other posters' writing style because it "annoys you"? Well as it annoys you so much and I will not be changing my writing style I will refrain from making any further posts on this thread. By the way, since we're being picky about punctuation, the word "its" as in "its output" does not have a possessive apostrophe. |

Are you sure about that? Slight exaggeration I think there fella. However, its always fun to make these things up for Digital Spy...
It is about time heart started broadcasting some decent output. Tell the DJs to actually start engaging with the listeners. Start playing some good music, not the garbage they play at the moment. Look at the evening show. The guy has got nothing to say. He hasn't got any personality or warmth about him. There are plenty of good quality DJs up and down the country who could do a better job. |

Surely when it comes to music, one man's garbage is another man's favourite track? Heart's playlist is pretty middle of the road and if you were saying it was safe or unadventurous, you probably wouldn't get much of a fight. But if you genuinely believe that every track listed here is garbage - an opinion you are of course entitled to - then Heart clearly isn't the station for you based on your music preferences. So surely it's in your interests to find a station that better suits your needs, than to keep listening to Heart hoping it's going to change its entire output to suit you!

It is not just about suiting me. Far from it. Any decent radio station should play many different types of music to attract many different types of listener. If a track is playing, then if a wider music policy was adopted, then the listener may well think "Well, I don't like this track, but the next one might be a better one, so I will stick with the station to find out." It is carried variety, and even though heart claim to have variety in their playlist, they simply don't. It is the same boring artists minute after minute, hour after hour, day after day. How the DJs don't get bored of this I have no idea. It must be soul destroying. |

It worked like that 20 years ago when people were scared of turning the dial incase they couldn't find their favourite station again. Things have progressed since then, and now it's "Well, I don't like this track, so i'll switch to a rival station" (or iPod or other source of music).
One of the major pulling points of radio is the DJ, and what they have to say. Done correctly and withthe right DJ, rdio is far more thanthe music being played. I can remember listening to ILR back in the 80's and 90's, and people used to more or less hang on every word of the DJ. Now, the majority of the DJs have no talent whatsoever. It's quite sad really. |
