I very much doubt they are being paid. Have you heard of Payola?
'Payola, in the music industry, is the illegal practice of payment or other inducement by record companies for the broadcast of recordings on commercial radio in which the song is presented as being part of the normal day's broadcast'.
If Heart, or indeed any other station, were co-promoting a gig, or presenting an artist 'in concert' it makes perfect sense to support the artist involved through airplay. It's not as if Heart haven't supported Emeli in the past or are playing an obviously 'off brand' band or artist.
Having said that, Heart (and Capital) both continue to flog Nathan Sykes new single, despite widespread evidence that the music buying public couldn't give a s**t. Nathan off course is signed to Global's record label and wouldn't be anywhere near the Heart playlist were he not - suggesting the decision to play him is very much a commercial one, rather than a programming one. Being a 'special' friend of Ashley Tabor clearly has it's benefits!
