The reason the Sande track is on Heart before release is because she is doing a gig for Heart real soon.”

Indeed next Tuesday it's at a 'secret London venue' however radio today have named the venue as Under The Bridge at Chelsea FC

I very much doubt they are being paid. Have you heard of Payola?

'Payola, in the music industry, is the illegal practice of payment or other inducement by record companies for the broadcast of recordings on commercial radio in which the song is presented as being part of the normal day's broadcast'.

If Heart, or indeed any other station, were co-promoting a gig, or presenting an artist 'in concert' it makes perfect sense to support the artist involved through airplay. It's not as if Heart haven't supported Emeli in the past or are playing an obviously 'off brand' band or artist.

Having said that, Heart (and Capital) both continue to flog Nathan Sykes new single, despite widespread evidence that the music buying public couldn't give a s**t. Nathan off course is signed to Global's record label and wouldn't be anywhere near the Heart playlist were he not - suggesting the decision to play him is very much a commercial one, rather than a programming one. Being a 'special' friend of Ashley Tabor clearly has it's benefits!

You have contradicted yourself there. "I very mich doubt they are being paid" yet in next sentence mention Payola!

Global do get paid for playing songs! ie: Payola!

Indeed! Welcome to the world of commercial radio!

Not only do they get paid to promote/play songs, but most of the time when they get stars in they are promoting a new movie, album etc...

No they don't. But if you think you're right, I look forward to seeing your evidence.

And no I wasn't contradicting myself - have another read of what I said. I clearly said I very much doubt that are being paid, and quoted the payola paragraph to illustrate why.

Anyway, over to you to post your evidence old chap!

Being paid to promote a movie is a commercial agreement between station and movie promoter. Stations and presenters can endorse/promote products freely as long as they make it clear to the listener that such a commercial arrangement is in place.

Taking payment to play a record that then appears on a playlist does not meet the definition of 'clearly signposting'.

At stations I've worked at in the past, not to mention any names, they were paid to play specific songs a certain number of times because of a commercial agreement between the station and the record label. And you are right about movies; it has to be made clear the deal is there.

No. You've been told that three times now.

Not the first time though you've given it the big one, claimed to be the expert, and ended up with egg on your face. As SP said, that's a big claim to make without anything to back it up - hence why I suggested you post some supporting evidence.

Then why make the claim in the first place if a) you don't know it's true and b) you can't back it up when challenged?

Please don't delete your account though - you're quite entertaining!

Guys, this is a radio forum to discuss the Heart network. It's all very well discussing this specific topic but please keep the conversations civilised. We all know different things about the way commercial radio operates, whether it's the music, playout systems, specific shows etc. But we can all learn from each other! We can correct each other and learn from our mistakes, but we don't want to start getting into a heated debate with personal attacks.
