Found out by chance on a retune (I don't listen to Heart or Heart Extra) that Heart Extra has been playing them non stop for days but obviously has few listeners as no one has bothered to mention it.

I dont think Capital Scotland has an extra local show. They just have the two 4 hour shows from 12 - 4

You might want to look into Heart Extra's first Rajar to realise how ignorant your comment is (Q3 2016).

If you determine something right as putting the same shite on a bunch of frequencies across the country restricting any real choice then yes, you probably have a point.

I don't know if you're turned the radio on recently... but considering there are a lot of non Global programmers working out there, with the ability to program, hire presenters, choose their own music, decide their own fate... and ultimately steal hours and share from all the Hearts/Capitals/Smooths in this world...

They're doing a pretty piss poor job of it.
And that's it really. I flick around the FM dial, shuttle through DAB and there really is a load of old tosh about.

A normal listener just wants the tunes they like, being introduced to things they might like, having the chance to win something they might not be able to afford and generally not being challenged. That's the 9.6 million, maybe more, maybe less.

Either way. That's the majority.
They like it and it looks like Global are doing an ok job of supplying what people want. Nobody is forced into it.

I retuned my DAB Radio a few days ago and saw Heart Extra on DAB as well as heart on the local stations (and countless Heart's on FM).

Does anyone know what the difference is between Heart and Heart Extra? Does Heart Extra play a few more songs? Does it extend some of the more specialist shows (such as Club Classics) that Heart plays?

What I found strange was when I tuned my DAB Radio and scanned through the stations, Heart and Heart Extra were both playing the same song at the same time! Do they have the same shows/playlists?

No it was because he didn't want to. He started on Spirit pretty much straight away.

Noticed the love/chillout songs had been dropped on Heart last night. Wonder if this is a permanent thing?

Although doing well. In many places it is the only FM station other than BBC and Classic, is it successful because it is doing well, or just lack of choice?

Ah yes, Totally different now. More upbeat songs played throughout the show, Shame really as some really good songs used to get played.

If you're missing the relaxed music in the evenings then try The Breeze http://www.thebreeze.com/southampton/radioplayer/

Although you can probably find some better stations if you're having to use internet for it.

As far as I am concerned radio in the UK is a dying trend. Kids and teenagers no longer listen. As they become older the 20 + group will be the next to disappear. Yet Smartie and Co still believe there beloved Global have got it right. What a joke UK radio has become.

Not true though, Radio listening in the UK is at an all time high, 89% of the UK population now listen to the radio each week.

I think you've missed my point that kids and teenagers do not listen to the radio anymore. It dosnt give them what they want whereas there smart phones do. 89% is irrelevant and will fall as the older listeners die and new listeners don't replace them.

How do you know teens don't listen to the radio in 2016?

I accept radio listening for under 25s is lower than streaming, hower the % will not fall simply because as teens get older trends show they switch from streaming back to the radio. As figures show.

Do you really think they worry about lorry drivers?

Possibly, judging by adverts I catch, not the audience they sell adverts based on.
