Just a general "younger" shift as new, younger listeners come through to Heart. A lot of AC stations haven't really moved their music on in the last 10 years or so - as good as they are, Chic, Sister Sledge, Diana Ross' "Diana" era... is the golden-age of disco, the "Nile & 'Nard" era as I call it, still relevant to a 35 year-old woman now, as it would have been in 2001?

It will depend on the number of younger listeners though and if it will out number the older listeners. Commercial Radio thought it was on to a good thing when Radio 1 changed in 1993 but the downside to that is the young audience Radio 1 began to attract then have been brought up not listening to Commercial Radio as much so stations like Heart are trying to cling on to some of the older audience by playing more older songs although over the last few years commericlal radio is fighting back with more stations aiming at the younger audience.

Does anyone feel all the exciting stuff is happening over night and evenings! (All 80's...All Night and new Club Classics) What about something fresh during the day?

A Heart thread, and the word "exciting"

Surely some mistake

Good point, surely it wouldn't do harm to have something like an 80s show in the daytime with a presenter??? I remember Essex FM had an 80s show with Martin Day on Sunday mornings, perhaps Heart could do something along those lines???

I'd argue that the daytime output is by and large working. Why change it?

I know I'm in the minority, but Club Classics needs to run 7-10pm Sunday-Thursday. The evening show is a great place to hook in your next generation of listeners, and I've always been of the belief that the evening show should always have a younger slant than the daytime output.

The new-look Club Classics provides a perfect opportunity to do that.

Please no.
Modern music (especially on the ex heritage Hearts) yes.
NOT Club Classics, some of us have to hear Heart at work and my not be 'Club' music fans. It is nice in the evening to hear the occasional Bon Jovi or Queen. Mind you up to date would be maybe rock acts form the last 20 years, like Oasis- Wonderwall, The Killers (I know a lot of women who like Brandon Flowers). Not saying lots of rock, but hey more music VARIETY in the evening please.

And hey lets have more Dizzee daytime. Like/enjoy his music. Not a fan of American rap artists, but this lad raps and it is not NY it is London, and it feels something I can understand, and want to understand.

It is chilled on West Midlands and London! Others are normal! I find the chilled stuff boring though

I was surprised when listening to the radio in the Chester and Wrexham area yesterday to Hear Fi Sadler on Heart FM. She is also a regular presenter at Imagine FM. The difference is that on Imagine FM she calls herself Fi Sadler, while on Heart she is just Fiona (without giving her surname on air!).

Here is a quick question...

Why do they vary the songs on a Sunday night? Is the audience older or something?

For example, heard Talk Talk, Pet Shop Boys and Supremes all on Sunday nights in the last few weeks.

ah that explains it. I've just recently moved from London area to Wiltshire so no longer listen to London. When the ex-One Network stations first went to Heart though I'm sure they all took chilled Sunday morning...must have changed at some point.

I think it might be... I've worked for a couple of stations where weekday evenings are younger, but Sunday evenings are older.

I caught Chilled Sunday on a ex-One network station on a couple of occasions and it had more current/recent chilled stuff in the local hours.

I think Chilled Sunday ended sometime last year although
London and the West Midlands have continued with chilled music on a Sunday morning without the strand having a particular name.

Personally I like the chilled music on a Sunday morning, I also liked it when they had "Heartbreakers" as was on Friday and Saturday after midnight although can understand why it went.

I liked the Midnight-4am Heartbreakers. Worked well as a wind-down from Club Classics.

Heartbreakers. The show name that Richard Park loved and then hated.

Dizzee Rascal on Club Classics??? Are you being serious????

Now that Heart have braved playing a Dizzee Rascal track to their target audience (and as far as I know had no complaints), then why don't they get with the times and start introducing more artists such as Tinie Tempah, Wiz Khalifa, Wretch 32, LMFAO, Chipmunk, Flo-Rida, Roll Deep, Pitbull, Far East Movement, Travie McCoy and Tinchy Stryder, both on Club Classics and on the daytime playlist???

It's always seemed illogical how Heart seem to think it's target audience won't tolerate rap music, yet think the exact same listeners would enjoy listening to The Big Top 40.

I see tonight it is all 80's with Gareth John after the late show with Nicola Bonn with Gareth John----- will listen to this for a while before hitting the sack

I think the Club Classics audience will want and appreciate tracks such as the ones added this weekend, but are probably a bit much for a general "working-day-soundtrack" mix. The audience for Club Classics is also a bit younger I'd imagine, and therefore one can get away with these songs there.

Your 6am-7pm dayparts though are always going to have to be a bit more middle of the road though.

In any case, anyone who wants those artists will surely be listening to Capital?

Yes mate! Honestly! It certainly sounded fresh

They won't introduce tunes like LMFAO, Tinie Tempah or Roll Deep because Capital handles that

Though this time last week, I bet you'd have sworn Heart would never play Dizzee Rascal either (and certainly not on Club Classics)!!!!
