Not just a case of a rename though, that would involve a takeover by GMG and I cant see that happening. Heart Gloucestershire is out on a limb though as it is unable to merge with any other Hearts at the moment, so I suppose you never know. However I cannot see it ever becoming Real or Smooth, they are regional and national, not local.

If the others Hearts are receiveable in Glocestershire I wonder if Global would consider a rebrand to Capital?

dont think any other Heart is available all over Gloucestershire. Heart West Mids can be heard in places as can Heart Bristol, however I can rarely pick up Heart Swindon where I am in the city.

Commercial radio is about getting relevant local adverts into listeners’ ears - overspill from distant transmitters is worthless.

I'd prefer Capital too ..but then I'm not a 35 year-old female (though I sometimes wish I were..).

it would of merged with Wyvern if Global owned it still.

Given how close Ashley Tabor is to Capital, if anything I'm surprised that more stations didn't get converted to Capital in the first place. Essex, for example, and probably quite a few of the original Capital Group stations.

Heart is, I believe, considerably more profitable than Capital, so it is always Global's preferred brand.

I've no doubt it must be, but Tabor's baby is Capital, no question.

Oh absolutely. But he's not stupid, and money talks.

As long as he's got some Capitals he can play with, he'll be happy. Meanwhile Richard Park can concentrate on the brand that the advertisers really want to buy into.

When they were deciding what stations to become Heart I suppose it was early days in turning around Capital in London and they seemed to looking at Galaxy as a brand to expand (replacing Power and Xfm Scot, selling it alongside Choice). IIRC Essex FM did briefly appear on the sales website as part of the Hit Music Network late 2008/early 2009.

They must be wishing they'd given Orion Trent, Leicester Sound and RAM now though, rather than Heart 106. I guess they hoped they'd be able to roll out Capital onto the Heritages whilst keeping Heart on as a franchise via Orion.

Why must they be wishing that now? AFAIK they royally screwed up the 106 contract renewal.

Because they could have kept Heart and therefore the supposedly more profitable brand, rather than converting the heritage 3 to Capital. By letting Orion run it as a franchise instead, they've lost significant coverage for the Heart brand, albeit run by Orion - plus all the IT support etc. that comes with the franchise if the one at Adventure Radio is anything to go by.

I'm led to believe that between them, Trent, Leicester Sound and Ram were considerably more profitable than Heart East Midlands was - hence Global's decision to get rid of 106.

And Orion's rebrand to Gem was partly prompted by Global ditching its heritage brands.

My thought though is has it caused more confusion? Pretty much every single station certainly in Leicestershire has changed its name at some point in the last 5 years!

Heart Requests with Simon Dale = Pre-selected songs usually heard on Heart, and listeners conveniently "requesting" Michael Buble and Take That and other songs usually heard on Heart
