Can someone please explain to me how Heart in the different areas have to fit in with the playlist for the heritage stations they rebranded from? People suggest in some areas the songs have to be AC and in some it has to be Hot AC, if Heart is networked, how can they achieve this except for the local shows? I do 'drop in' a listen every now and then to find out what they're playing, but this question is really bugging me..??
In most areas the Heart stations have to play a certain amount of music from the last two years and the current chart. In those areas in the local show they play more music from the last two years and current charts.

Voice tracked is when a presenter records all of the links for one show in advance, and they are programmed into a computer for play out. Many smaller groups use the technique when one presenter hosts shows on different stations. So, for example, Danny DJ could do a live breakfast show on Big Town FM and then also appear to to drive on Countyshire Sound.

This is different from Smart Networking, whereby the main output is live - in real time - and the presenter records a series of drop in links for different areas. This is used by Capital, Heart and Smooth.

In turn, this is different from simply pre recording a show in real time for later play out. This technique is more common for, say Radio 2 shows.
Yeah, I guessed Capital would be a big networker, so's Heart, but I guess stations like Southend Radio may voicetrack, I can't see Radio Jackie doing any of the above though

In most areas the Heart stations have to play a certain amount of music from the last two years and the current chart. In those areas in the local show they play more music from the last two years and current charts.
So what does Heart deem as AC, and Hot AC, what's the difference between the AC and Hot AC?

So what does Heart deem as AC, and Hot AC, what's the difference between the AC and Hot AC?
Here's an example from today's local 12pm hour :

12pm Heart London (AC) - The same log is carried by Heart West Midlands
17 Feb - 12:02 Black Eyed Peas, The I Gotta Feeling
17 Feb - 12:06 Train Drive By
17 Feb - 12:14 Emeli Sandé Read All About It (Pt III)
17 Feb - 12:17 Michael Jackson Rock With You
17 Feb - 12:20 Justin Timberlake feat. Jay-Z Suit & Tie
17 Feb - 12:27 Bill Medley & Jennifer Warnes (I've Had) The Time Of My Life
17 Feb - 12:32 Wanted, The All Time Low
17 Feb - 12:36 Gabrielle Dreams
17 Feb - 12:38 Adele Make You Feel My Love
17 Feb - 12:46 Michael Bublé Haven't Met You Yet
17 Feb - 12:49 Whitney Houston I Wanna Dance With Somebody.
17 Feb - 12:54 Plan B She Said

12pm Heart West Country (Hot AC) - Previously GWR
17 Feb - 12:02 Carly Rae Jepsen Call Me Maybe
17 Feb - 12:05 JLS Beat Again
17 Feb - 12:09 Lawson Learn To Love Again
17 Feb - 12:12 Bryan Adams and Mel C When You're Gone
17 Feb - 12:16 Ed Sheeran Lego House
17 Feb - 12:19 Emeli Sandé Read All About It (Pt III)
17 Feb - 12:28 Maroon 5 Payphone
17 Feb - 12:32 Adele Rolling In The Deep
17 Feb - 12:35 Wanted, The Glad You Came
17 Feb - 12:42 Karmin Brokenhearted
17 Feb - 12:45 Take That Never Forget
17 Feb - 12:50 Dido No Freedom
17 Feb - 12:54 David Guetta feat. Sia Titanium

Two very different logs. The Heart AC format is leaned more towards adults whereas Hot AC skews a bit younger (with the inclusion of Karmin and David Guetta). Hot AC is a cross between AC and CHR where it's not too young but not too old either. Karmin/Brokenhearted and David Guetta/Titanium don't get airplay on the AC Heart's and Suit & Tie listed here for Heart London is the non-rap version.

Ah I see, so the AC format that London carries is more like the old London-only Heart that I used to like under Chrysalis before Tabor and his Global too over, how I miss the old evening and even more late night love show on Heart London The likes of the way Heart London used to do it won't be heard again, which is a shame

Hmmm.... i'm a bit sceptical as if you've even tried any recent songs on these females that no one has ever known to have been approached for research.

STILL tests well..........so this is a common track to "test" is it?

Victoria is covering Emma on Devon.
Why didn't they just put Vic on the regional and increase the speech content for this week?

Don't be complaining!

Out of interest, what would happen if Global was to launch a service similar to UKRD's Soundcheck? Would it work?

Chris Brooks in for Steve at last minute tonight. He sounds just perfect on heart, better than when he was on Capital.

Talk about lack of choice now. I can now receive Heart FM on the following frequencies, I live in Colchester, Essex.

96.1 FM Heart Colchester
96.3 FM Heart Essex
97.1 FM Heart Suffolk
102.6 FM Heart Essex
102.8 FM Heart Kent
103.1 FM Heart Kent
106.2 FM Heart London

DAB Heart Essex
Heart Kent
Heart London

a couple of years ago these were separate stations now all I can get is blooming Heart. This many Heart stations in one are is this some sort of record?
Couldn't agree more. Thanks to Global Radio and others, radio choice on the FM band anyway has been well and truely stifled; we must surely have the poorest choice of stations on our FM band in Western Europe, albeit in the major urban areas.

Here in West Kent we at least had our brilliant local station Invicta FM (consumed by Global into it's dismal Heart brand), with I assume little or no say from the listeners as to what they actually wanted. Now commercial choice on FM has been reduced to Heart Kent and KMFM (which has also stifled choice in the area by swallowing up local stations like CTR and instead of retaining their indivuality have branded them all to the same). And yes again we have two KMFMs one on 101.6 and one on 105.6, what the hell?! Whereas before we could at least pick up alternatives like the great Essex FM (now bloomin Heart too) and we did that precisely because the choice in our area has always been so poor.

Money talks and instead of properly regulating the activities of these monopolising radio groups, OFCOM has simply rolled over and allowed them to do whatever they want and to hell with what the listeners actually want.

So it begs the question, in non urban areas how can you not switch to DAB? Granted the less than satisfactory sound quality on some stations is an issue, but are people really happy to settle with the monotonous Capital and Heart brands?

No doubt I will be subject to a torrent of ridicule after this post, a certain member of the forum kindly informed me that far from this forum being a place to post one's views, it is merely a platform for radio insiders to sneer and have a laugh at listeners posts, says it all doesnt it!

Thank you Global Radio and others for limiting further the choice of radio stations on the FM band in this country, great job guys!

The KM Group had a share in CTR from the start of their commercial licence. (CTR was originally 20/20, a RSL station for Maidstone) They were forward thinking enough even 10 years ago that eventually the Kent sallies were all going to be networked and branded together.

Maidstone should really have a community station which continues in the spirit of CTR which was one of the county's better sallies.

At least in Kent you have two commercially distinct services, Heart which caters for 30 something women which continues to do well despite what anoraks feared would go downhill after Invicta's rebrand and the CHR skewed KMFM which relaunched under Rob Wills.

Yeah, I must admit, there was plenty of humble pie to go around, I was looking in the old "Invicta - GWR Mix?" thread the other day and the general consensus was that KMFM would come out on top.

I had high hopes for the new CHR format at KMFM, but the playlist is too repetitive, and I don't think they keep it up to date enough.

Just listening to Maltese station Bay Easy playing "Today's Best Mix for Malta & Gozo" online. Sounds very familiar to Heart...

"On DAB+, Mobile and Melita Cable, this is Bay Easy. It's 4 O'clock and here's the latest..." followed by an introduction to "feel good Friday" with a familiar backing track lol

Yes, a few UK radio names working at Bay!

On an unrelated note, the new idea of moving the local weekend shows to the evening is clearly a way for them to justify in the future to Ofcom they should be dropped?

At least before, the local breakfast shows featured travel and local news, now, the local afternoon show has nothing of any local value at all. Pointless!
