News, information and entertainment equates to as "speech".

Hilarious. In case you hadn't noticed, the most recent posts on this forum appear on the front page. That's where I generally look first.

A couple of days back your comment about merging the small Devon stations was there. I challenged you on that then and you avoided the issue and now you've done the same. Nor have you responded to my point about Heart being a music based service.

All I'm doing is challenging the inconstencies in your arguments. That is the nature of debate. Your assertion that everyone outside London was getting a "second rate" service just doesn't stand up.

As for swearing via acronyms, can you blame me when I'm dealing with people who have little or no grasp of how radio actually works?

Except when it comes to local news, where entertainment generally can't be classified as local content. Capital got hauled up over that a couple of years ago and were eventually forced to extend their daytime bulletins from 30 to 90 seconds.

It can be but Heart aren't doing a personality drivetime for London because of any licence requirements, it's because they want to. West Midlands have exactly the same CoS and have a music drivetime.

Please explain how radio works if I have no grasp? I think I have a perfect grasp, stations broadcast audio, people listen, the more that listen the more advistisers will pay and the higher a station's revenue. Please enlighten me with your superior knowledge.

I'll explain it when you answer my previous points about supporting networking as long as it's a small group and vehemently opposing it if it has the name Global attached to it.

I have no issue with Heart networking, just don't understand why if you go to the effort of having a national show it is filled with non stop music rather than personality. Things are improving with the more personality focused weekend breakfast shows. Maybe they should network breakfast and drive with some big names (Moyles? His apprentice JK is doing well at Heart copying the play old clips of other DJs feature Moyles used to do at his handover with JK/Joel). The back to back music could then just fill local hours 9-4, obviously there'd be local opt outs for news/travel during national breakfast/drive.

To be fair Heart just want to be a national FM station so why not ensure all Heart areas have at least 1 local alternative on FM then just let them be national and focus on 1 big breakfast and drive rather than 10s of local ones? Would allow them a fairer chance to compete with the BBC then.

Either 6-9 or 7-9 AM must be local. I just can't remember which.

I think the answer is to offer an alternative and it's good business sense.

Doing what they do is cheaper but also provides something for the people who just want music and minimal clutter. They have the added frustration of adverts which we know listeners hate. The bbc have the speech heavy big personality presenters but there are a large number of people who don't want that. The audience figures for commercial radio back this up. Although the bbc has the larger market share commercialradio is not exactly doing badly. Add in their costs against the bbc's and as a spend per listener I think the commercial world wins hands down. That's good business.

"More Music Variety" has been subject to a complaint again, but just like last time it has been rejected without an investigation. Perhaps those who don't like it could just change station rather than wasting their own (and Ofcom's) time? Page 112 of this week's Ofcom Broadcast Bulletin.

Anyone got audio of that?

How did Heart deal with that story?

Capital had an extended 1pm bulletin. I guess Heart & Capital both used the same report from their 'political editor'? ending with "Capital Reports. Im..." and straight into 'you got the love'.

I see Joel Ross is covering Evenings for Roberto 12th August whilst Roberto and Margherita are covering London Breakfast. Interesting I bet JK will chat with him on his London Drivetime Show.

Toby, you can't also segue out songs far too early, that are halfway through a chorus:

That's how you lose listeners.

Well, considering the Heart network ADDED 200,000 listeners in the most recent RAJAR that seems to not be how you lose listeners.
