The average length for a song is approximately 3'30, and this is fine for most songs. But there will always be exceptions to this rule - and they should never be standardised with bad segues.
Another quote from these forums:
Quote:
“In the sixties the average song was less than three minutes in duration. Over time the average increased to just under four minutes and over the last decade or so it has decreased slightly.
But, and it's big but, there's always been notable exceptions to this and to suggest they should be standardized in length as a matter of course is, I'm afraid to say, a rather peculiar supposition.”
A couple of exceptions (that are longer than 4'00):
Starship - We Built This City (4'56)
Starship - Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now (4'30)
Mr Mister - Broken Wings (4'36)
And a few more modern ones:
Passenger - Let Her Go (4'12)
Daft Punk - Get Lucky (4'08)
Plus most of Madonna's older stuff that is between 4'00 and 5'30 in length...
All of which are Heart Playlisted.
